When using the link preview pop up, it would be very convenient to have a keyboard shortcut to maximize the link into a new tab, instead of having to move the mouse to the very top corner. I think it would make the experience of the preview window a lot smoother.

I shift click on a link in Orion, or simply click on a link elsewhere on my Mac; I decide I do want to open the page in a new tab and keep working on it there. I quickly type a shortcut and the preview page opens in a new tab. Instead of moving my mouse up and over, which can take a second or two, I can instead just hit a keyboard shortcut and make the transition from preview to browser tab seamless. I personally, as well as other power users, would probably create a touchpad gesture in BetterTouchTool to be able to use a gesture to activate the shortcut and go from the preview pop-up to the browser.

    avr Yes, that may work.

Tooltip should say "Open in Orion ⌘T"

avr What should the shortcut be, and how would the user discover it?

Command+O is used for this same behavior in other browsers like Arc. Makes sense to keep it consistent.

Example from Arc in the top right having the shortcut labeled right next to / on the button to perform the action. An alternative would be a tool tip that pops up on hover of the existing expand button.

MisterTwo Tooltip could work. cmd o would not work as it is standard macOS shortcut to open a file. any other suggestions (and try it in Orion first 🙂

Two comments, both slightly tangential to the issue, but I hope relevant to thoughts about it:

            1. The button in the window, which converts the preview window into a normal tab, has an icon which I read as 'open in full-screen'. I have searched for a 'convert to tab' button in this window, and confidently concluded that there wasn't one (indeed, I came here today to suggest one be added, so I've learned something).

            2. Better, for me, would be a setting which opened links in a new tab by default, rather than in a preview window. Now that I can identify the 'open in a tab' button, I know the only thing I'll do in a preview window is click on that button immediately. If such a setting already exists, then it's nowhere I can find it (and I've looked quite hard).

nxg You can already disable link previews in settings -> tabs

How about command-T? It’s the same for opening a new tab in the browser itself so could be intuitive?

                    nxg Uncheck this:

Alternately, leave it checked, and shift+click on a link in a non-Orion app to open it in a new tab, bypassing the preview
