Address bar not automatically selected on new window
I'm seeing this for new windows (either normal, or private mode) on Version 0.99.127.1-beta (WebKit 619.1.1)
In the video, I open a new window, then wait a few seconds, then press command+L to focus it. You can see the purple outline appear a few seconds after I open the window.
This feature request entails immediately focusing the url/search text box when creating a new window. This is for
- Speed (you generally create a new window when you want to navigate somewhere else)
- Consistency (Right now, when you create a new tab, the url/search box is immediately in focus. However, new window has a different behavior)
This will affect existing workflows by:
- Speeding up people that want to perform a search/visit a URL in a new window
- It won't affect people that click on a Bookmark or Favorite as their jumping off point
Safari automatically focuses the url/search box when creating a new window.
After the latest Update, when opening a new Window the cursor/focus isn't moved to the URL/Search bar anymore. One needs to click the address bar first in order to type.
So when starting to type when opening a new window nothing happens, which is a huge inconvenience, since one doesn't necessarily look where one is typing and just expect default behaviour. Behaviour should be the same for a new tab as well as new window.
When opening a new tab the focus immediately goes to the URL/search bar as expected, no problem there.
When opening a new window the cursor/focus should shift directly to the address bar in order to directly type a URL or search.
Version 0.99.127.1-beta (WebKit 619.1.1)
Sonoma (14)
Unable to reproduce on 127.1-beta. Opening a new window either via File
-> New Window
or by pressing ⌘+N
results in a new window where the address bar is focused and ready to be typed in.
It may sound pointless, but could you post a video of this issue?
here you go, as you can see, when opening a new window need to click into address bar, when tab it immediately works. (in video i used a private window and set start pages to empty but same on regular windows)
same behaviour no matter if i use the keyboard shortcut or menu item, private or non private.
yup can confirm on regular tabs it behaves as expected. loving the vertical tabs on the big screen though, kills me atm because I always start typing into nirvana and then have to click and retype
