i believe to have come up with a consistent way to recreate the issue if you change something about the youtube page (e.g., enabling compatibility mode, enabling/disabling extensions, etc) and the issue fails to repeat itself. you need to open up a new video in a new tab and then go to that youtuber's videos page. the issue should then return after that.
with this i was able to confirm that this does happen in compatibility mode, so no extensions are the issue
