PDF download automatically renamed to "document.pdf"

Steps to reproduce: Download any pdf on the web (excluding word or other types of file)

Expected behavior: File download name is exactly as what it was uploaded

Enzo I am also not able to reproduce, on a clean Profile, or otherwise.

Could you note what extensions you are using, or perhaps what your non-default settings are? Also, does perhaps resetting/clearing any type of browser data function as a workaround to fix the issue?

I just tested on Orion Beta & RC in two ways:

1) Loading a sample PDF and downloading from the PDF viewer download button
https://www.africau.edu/images/default/sample.pdf

2) Visiting https://uwaterloo.ca/onbase/help/sample-pdf-documents and using right click to download

In both cases, the filename is downloaded as you would expect. However, I do remember seeing this issue happen to me before but I feel like it's been a few versions since I saw it last.

I have pdfs in my google drive that download as 'download-1' (-2, etc). and macOS doesn't read them as PDFs (I have to manually open in preview)

Also having issues with downloading pdfs from 3.basecamp.com, where the viewer is won't work and the downloads have cryptic names (for example: cieY5p6mtEj1wWTpMye8qZfm.pdf)

Both instances are not public files so I don't know how to share a reproducible use case. Both work as expected in Safari. Let me know how I can help with this (I can share the Google Drive privately with @Vlad if that's helpful)

Vlad The steps to reproduce this are pretty simple. You can just download any pdf file on the web and, in my case, it should be automatically downloaded and renamed to "document"

here's an example PDF:

Oddly, when I download it from my drive it uses the 'download' name and is not seen as a PDF by macOS. When I follow the link I just shared, I get a random cryptic name (and it is a PDF). I'll keep investigating and see if I get come up with better reproducible steps.

Edit: the plot thickens .. when I use a clean Orion profile, it downloads with the correct name. But when I use my default one (even in Compatibility mode), it uses the 'download' name

Enzo I did just that, and was not able to reproduce.

While not a full reproduction, I can clearly demonstrate the behavior, and I have a feeling it has to do with PDFs that are not publicly accessible (i.e., locked behind some sort of login system/authentication) – this would explain why reproducing has been so difficult 🙂. Screen recording attached.

Update: My hunch was right, it seems. Reproducible for me by building a test case on my homepage, https://merz.ws/orion-pdf.
The resource name in the Finder download window should be private.pdf, but is document.pdf

If needed, I can provide the specific source code for this example if you want to do further/local testing.
