Here is my suggestion: Let the user add their own toolbar buttons to quickly access features within Orion. These could be added from the "Customize toolbar..."-interface. For example: You export to PDF a lot? Add a toolbar button. You use Low Power mode a lot? Toolbar button. Have a favorite tool in the "Develop" menu that you use constantly? Toolbar button.

My suggestion for GUI: In the customize toolbar pane, have two tabs (think old macOS System Preferences). One tab is standard toolbar buttons, the other tab is "All" or "Advanced". There you can have miller columns to dig down the menus to drag your preferred feature to the toolbar.

This should ideally be a standard feature from the macOS system, but it shouldn't hurt for Orion to be a trailblazer.

Thank you!

carl I like this. It should be more robust imo, there is an advanced button type, and you cna then customize it to do things. Link to either a menu item, or even open a url or run a bookmarklet. If you like this, can you take this idea further and think of UX to do this?

Sure, do you have any tools you recommend for doing such a mock-up?

      • Vlad replied to this.

carl not really even doing it in text would be fine

Having a quick button to click to get a screenshot of a web page in the toolbar or within a right-click context menu would make convent access to a common feature.

eirk You are starting to know the forum as good as I do 🙂

Thanks for finding this. I tried.

Not sure if macOS allows for a lot of customization of the "Customize Toolbar" windows pane.

For starters, I say KISS and just put all of them in the list to add. If it becomes a problem down the road then spend resources to clean it up?

Found this - but the origin site has a dead page to the article. (https://www.programmersought.com/article/96333362517/)

This is my suggestion on how the advanced "Customize Toolbar" UI could look. It could also be combined with the standard buttons. Next to each submenu or menu action there is a button that you can drag to the toolbar to add it. You could also search for available commands. I think this view is simple and understandable for everybody.

Apologies for the bad quality of the mockup, first time I tried Figma.

Edit: Somewhere there should be a "Done button" when the user is finished. As well as indicators for items already added, and indicators for toolbar spaces.

I want to add a button to the address bar and click this button to play the video full screen, and then I hope to add a translation button on the toolbar to translate the current web language.

Love it, but... where's the documentation? How do I figure out how to use this?

                        1. Functions not clear.
                        2. No cursor in the Edit Code box. None. So I don't know where I'm at.
                        3. Is there any way to add as a context menu item? i.e. I want to right-click and select "Open in Archive" to open the link in archive.(ph|li|.etc.)

We do not have documentation yet, someone needs to write it (will you? 🙏 )

                          2. I have the cursor? It is a standard text component
                          3. No, these are programmable toolbar buttons
