Safari Version 16.2 (17614.3.7.1.7, 17614)
Same behavior as @portastar. So it seems this would deviate from Safari's normal behavior, but in my opinion it would be a nice feature to add.

I agree, I would like that as an option in settings

Can someone show this with a use case scenario to clearly illustrate what happens now vs what would you like to happen?

        Vlad

        Here's one scenario

Here are the tabs I currently have open:

        Tab 1 (Current): Google Docs
        Tab 2: Research Document

        • Open new tab to search Google
        • Closes tab
        • I am on the Research Document when I want to go back to the Google Docs to write down the information I learnt from Google.

ashp0 Thank you. And can you confirm what happens in Safari?

Vlad It will open the tab the last tab.

            • Vlad replied to this.

Vlad tab on the right of the closed tab if it exists, if not then, tab on the left of the closed tab

              • Vlad replied to this.

Vlad yea correct, but the above comments were saying they would like it if there was an option to do it differently, rn when u close a tab it just opens the tab on the right of the tab u close, regardless of when u used it, but people r saying they would like it better, if instead of simply opening the tab to the right of the closed tab, it opens the previously active tab. aka tab u were in before the would-be closed tab.

Please correct me if i misinterpreted anything guys.

@Vlad I finally determined the use-case that is causing me issues. You are corerct in that normal tab behavior mirrors Safari. It appears that when you close a tab, it returns to the tab that was active prior to the one you closed. However, the issue I'm experiencing is when I open a new tab from a pinned tab, then close that new tab, it does not return to the pinned tab despite it being the last tab I had active.

If you want, I can create a different issue that better describes this bug. I can also record it if needed. I have only tested this bug using the vertical sidebar as well, so I'm not sure if that is required.

ericschmar yes please, the clearer the description of the ask is the easier for us to react (also please compare behavior with Safari)

                      Vlad

Sure thing. Here are my recordings. Safari doesn't have vertical tabs so I just tried my best with what I could.

Such option will greatly improve tab navigation and feels very organic. With it, when user closes a tab Orion will switch to the tab which was previously active, not the one next in the list.

                          Just stumbled over this issue.

When I open a new tab from a link within a pinned tab, and I close that tab, I would expect Orion to jump back to the pinned tab. Instead of opens any unrelated tab in the tab bar.

I just switched from Chrome, which has this behavior, and I'm missing it greatly!
