Steps to reproduce:
Speaking specifically to the URL preview in the bottom left of the screen that appears when you hover over a link. You can see an example in this related thread - the "Hovering in Safari" image.

Unsure what causes the problem. I am experiencing it on two different M1 MacBooks, both on Ventura 13.1. Problem occurs with compatibility mode as well as not. Problem occurs on all pages. It's like the URL preview just doesn't exist. I know they're supposed to appear. They definitely did before!

I think this first popped up right before I upgraded to Ventura.

Expected behavior:

When hovering over a link of any kind, a preview of the full URL should appear in the bottom left corner. This should happen on all pages in all circumstances for all links.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:

  • Orion: Version 0.99.122-beta (WebKit 615.1.11.7)
  • OS version: Ventura 13.1
  • Hardware: 13-inch, M1, 2020 && 14-inch 2021 (M1)

Image/Video:

Not much of an image, but here's a screenshot of me hovering over a link (to an external domain from the page I am on) and not having any URL preview appear.

skrrt Can you check View -> Show Status Bar is turned on

Vlad my embarassment is deep enough to fill the oceans right now. I definitely double checked the view menu and missed that multiple times. That did indeed do the trick. I would really think that should be in the main app settings, but that's just me. Consider this solved.

This is why they pay me the big bucks.

        skrrt

I would really think that should be in the main app settings,

How are other browsers doing it?

          Vlad

          • Chrome - not possible, as far as some quick searching tells me
          • Firefox - custom user CSS
          • Safari - same as Orion, so I guess that does make for precedent

Like I said, just me. I didn't know to expect it there (I don't use Safari to have picked up that menu pattern). I'd still vote for including it in the Appearance settings tab, as it being there would have saved me (and you!) time. Many other options in the View menu appear there already, so it's not a divergence from the norm.

skrrt I'll tend to not do anything about it as you are either coming from a browser that does not have an easy way to set it or does it in a way that is same as Orion. We do not want Settings to turn into Vivald-like , million settings.

What I will ask you though is to add this to our open source documentation so that in the future users can find it.

I have been intermittently plagued by this recently, and am glad I found this issue so I know how to fix if it occurs again.

I'm not sure if the Show Status Bar setting is off by default for some profiles or something, or if maybe I've been accidentally pressing the shortcut for it without realising, but it's definitely been a source of confusion to me, and was something I just assumed was a bug because I knew that it had definitely shown links before, and just wasn't showing them sometimes (for seemingly no discernible reason).

Just my two cents, but maybe it's worth renaming the setting to something clearer like "Show Hyperlink URLs"? "Status bar" doesn't really mean anything to me, because there are lots of things that could have a status (e.g. the Console Errors Indicator could be considered part of a status bar, and that shows up in the top section).

Also, perhaps there's some way to provide stronger visual feedback when a settings shortcut is activated? The current very brief background flash of the relevant menubar heading is very easy to miss if you're not looking for it.

ES-Alexander I think just removing the keyboard shortcut for this (who would use it on purpose anyway) will help with a lot of problems.

If renaming maybe "Show Link Information"?

In any case please open a new feature suggestion for this.
