I understand your logic, but I am not 100% sure it applies here. Safari actually does not support favicons (Icons in the Bookmark Bar). So the fact that favicons are possible on Orion is already pulling a design choice from a non-MacOS browser. One of the reasons I first jumped to Orion was because I learned it could do favicons (they are important to me for showing a bunch of bookmarks on the bar).
Here is quick screenshot of my bookmark bar in Orion vs Chrome. You can see that Orion's are notably smaller. As OP has mentioned, it makes it tougher to properly make out favicons or quickly distinguish multiple bookmarks.
