  • Bookmarks bar Bookmarks get dropped off and deleted very easily.

  • BugsDesktopDone

Steps to reproduce:

Hello there,
I read this issue being addressed in another ticket, but it was closed while the issue is still here.

What is this all about:

  1. The Individual clicks on a bookmark or bookmark folder in the bar,
  2. Their mouse settings (either too fast or too slow) and computer snappiness (old machines) make the function of "Dropping off Bar to Delete" unreliable for general use. The result is Bookmarks and whole Bookmark Folders to get shot and dissapear just by clicking on them.

Pause for emphasis on the importance of this issue...
A Folder of Bookmarks might be very important to someone, and it may even be impossible to fully recover if there is no backup.

Expected behavior:
I would propose that this whole function should be removed. There is a menu to delete each object. No need to drag and drop. I would expect my browser bar to not have a black hole were objects can be dropped at it by mistake and never get recovered. 😂

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion Version 0.99.122-beta (WebKit 615.1.11.7)
MacOS Ventura 13.0.1
Macbook 13 2015

Image/Video:
No further bookmarks will be sacrificed for the purpose of this bug.

The same "Blow out" option where you can remove an item from a bar by dragging it out of it also exists when we Customize Toolbar. To enable it though, you have to right click and enter the Customize Toolbar section. It is not possible to just drag extensions like that and remove them with regular use of the browser.

Another possibility is to add an edit option for the Bookmarks Bar. Although I believe the easiest and most practical solution to this problem is to just disable this function if possible.

If you have more questions, shoot away. Forgive me, but I'm not making a video for this. Thank you for understanding.

korompilias The reason why I asked for video is because I can not reproduce the issue. I am interacting with bookmarks on the bookmarks bar just fine and do not have accidental removals. In those circumstances it is hard to udnerstand tha naure of the issue you are experiencing.

I started using Orion about a week ago and so far absolutely LOVE it. However, I am dealing with the exact same issue. It was referenced in https://orionfeedback.org/d/2774-bookmarks-bar-bookmarks-get-deleted-randomly as mentioned but that issue was closed. I am experiencing the exact same behavior, but it is tough to catch on video as it is not easily reproduceable. I'll have to run a perpetual screen record to catch it when it happens. But essentially I click to open the folder, the browser interprets a drag and then all of the bookmarks in the folder are removed. Very difficult to reliably recreate.

Edit: command+z brings the folder back, but not the bookmarks. This part should at least be reproducable. Could we have undo bring the bookmarks back or is there a design reason for not doing this?

        Appreciate the help!
