0xCUBE Steps to reproduce: In this example I used Twitter (no bettertwitter) since it happens there both with compatibility mode on and off 1) Try to log in/sign up to Twitter (or any other website with sign in with google) 2) Notice that sign in with google doesn't show up Expected behavior: "Sign in with Google" appears normally Orion, OS version; hardware type: Image/Video:
0xCUBE Vlad weird, in compatibility mode it sometimes works, sometimes doesn't for me. I'm not sure why it's happening, but here are my extensions for what it's worth:
Vlad 0xCUBE Likely one of the extensions is causing it, would be useful if you could find out which one.
0xCUBE Vlad it appears that privacy badger breaks Sign in with google capabilities. Disabling that extension makes everything work immediately. I'll take a look at my settings for that extension to see if anything may be blocking the prompt.
0xCUBE Sure I'll disable them and enable them one-by-one and see what it is. It would be useful to know for other people since these are all pretty popular extensions!
Vlad 0xCUBE It is somewhat expected jusding from the name of the extension. Now what is intriguing for us to look at is does this indeed happen in compatibility mode too? Meaning privacy badger still manages to break this even if you are in compatibility mode. If you can reproduce this (with a video) please let us know.
0xCUBE Vlad I was not able to reproduce the issue in compatibility mode. It might have just been a fluke. However, it is definitely this extension because disabling it brings back the sign in with google prompt right away.
Vlad 0xCUBE I feel bad for thousands of users who will not be able to figure that it is the extension and not Orion causing the issue.
0xCUBE Vlad yeah lol have you been able to reproduce it without compatibility mode? For now the only sites that I had issues with were Reddit and Twitter but there could be a lot more. Maybe it's worth contacting the developers of the extension to see what might be triggering it to be blocked. Also this is with default settings in the extension, I also reproduced the issue in Orion RC. I'll make a video now.
Vlad 0xCUBE Maybe it's worth contacting the developers of the extension to see what might be triggering it to be blocked. Please do!
0xCUBE Hmm ok one more interesting thing I found is that if I disable privacy badger, refresh, re-enable it, refresh, then the thing magically stays there and works fine, albeit with a different font.
0xCUBE Vlad ok, I'll try to get ahold of them and will post updates here. I can also DM on discord if necessary
0xCUBE @Vlad Ok so I have some news that may be good and may be bad. So this issue has already been mentioned on the extension's GitHub page and the solution seems to be to whitelist accounts.google.com... I guess it makes sense that they want better security but the users should know if things are going to break with default settings. https://github.com/EFForg/privacybadger/issues/2854 EDIT: Based on the above issue, it seems that they have been trying to integrate a solution to the problem since...2014...but it has largely been at pause recently: https://github.com/EFForg/privacybadger/issues/137
Vlad 0xCUBE Great detective work, thanks. The problem remains that almost every user using privacy badger hitting this problem, will think it is Orion problem and not an extension issue.
0xCUBE Vlad yeah for sure. Since the extension is in the "Popular Extensions" section, is it possible to make tweaks to the extension upon installation, just to whitelist accounts.google.com and whatever else is needed?
