For instance, in Brave, it's possible to configure search such that (for example) :r vec
uses https://doc.rust-lang.org/std/?search=vec
. This is nice because, as compared to bangs, it saves a trip to the search engine, which is nice for people on not-so-fast network connections. It'd be cool to have the same feature in Orion!
Select search engine using query prefix

nhynes Orion already has this and is arguably more powerful as you can set any invocation character or keyword - it does not need to be preceded with ":"
https://browser.kagi.com/faq.html#quicksearch
Discoverability of this is probably problematic, any ideas how to surface it better?
Oh, this is really cool! I definitely wouldn't have thought to add a bookmark (and, admittedly, I glossed over the search section in the FAQ).
I was expecting to see something closer to an table of available search engines, containing an editable column describing the quick search shortcuts (so like Brave). Then, the custom quick searchers could be removed/hidden from bookmarks to prevent them from polluting the Top Hits.
Also, another thing Brave does well is modifying the nav bar to show "Search <engine>:" when performing a quick search. Of course, I already know my quick search engines, so this is more of a nice-to-have.
Safari already has this without needing to add a bookmark. Also chrome and firefox too. They just simply add a search query concatenation for each query you made inside a search input bar, which can be tabbed into at any moment.
