Private mode - Extension data still stays

Browse the web in a Private window, relaunch the browser, check Options - Privacy - Manage. There's a bunch of sites' data. I reset the browser and started from the scratch still no go. For now I can only delete it manually.

While browsing privately website data shouldn't be saved. Or at the very least must be deleted after browser relaunch.

For me the problem has been resolved, nothing from private shows up in privacy > manage anymore.

I do make sure to only check domains that I visit in private mode, and anything that might come with its trackers, since some data may appear there from normal mode by itself.

Do check if you are running any extensions that may update data or retain stuff. I am running Custom Site JS, SponsorBlock for YouTube and uBlock Origin and it all seems fine.

The extensions I have installed are Bitwarden, Downie, Invidious and URL Shortener. Try to stick to the minimum.

Strange, as I started recording another video cleaning all the site data before browsing, everything went cool. No data was collected. I guess I might have missed something.

registered It is not clear what the beginning state of browser data is (you dont show that it is clear at the beginning of the video)

Also you browse reddit and twitter and I do not see any browser data from those two sites in manage data, just some random sites that you did not visit. Please clarify.

Also please try the same with extensions disabled, it could be that extensions are saving some data (other browsers do not run extensions in private windows, we do currently)

I repeated the experiment cleaning all the data before and I admit I have gotten confused for some reason. It's working now the way it should. I really apologize that I have taken your time being not very attentive myself. I can send you another video but I don't know whether it's worth it if the problem seems to be solved

Unfortunately, the problem persists. Here's a video. It turned out to be a longer one so I put an outer link to it. Thing is, even the sites data I have not visited at the time appear in the window. I'll disable all the extensions and repeat the experiment and will let you know. May take me a day though, it's hella late here now, 3 am. But I promise I will

Couldn't help myself. Repeated the experiment no matter what time it is. The result is no extensions - no data. I tried very hard, browsed dropbox and google maps and stuff. Nada.
Extensions that I have usually enabled are
Bitwarden
Downie
URL Shortener

those as a must, then go the ones that are no big deal to ditch -

I still don't care about cookies
Invidious

Those are all I have.

registered So basically ou are saying that these extensions are saving data? That is to be expected as we have no control over that. What we will do is to disable extensions from running in private mode like other browser do.

Now you also know just how much communication extensions do.

True. But are you at least planning working with extensions in the near future. If I don't have Bitwarden in a private mode that means I can't login to any site. With all respect to you, I still am not sure whether it's a good idea to give browsers handle passwords. Maybe I will anyway in the future but not for now.

I never expected the extensions would save site data to the browser. You kind of opened my eyes. Still, there's a variety of options of extension's behavior in the settings.

Please let me know if this is possible in the future (like, say, updating extensions) to have them restricted from saving browsing data.

Thanks again for a great job with the Orion. With each release I use it more and more. It's going to be a great one if everything goes well.

That is an interesting point. How does Bitwarden do that in Chrome/Firefox?

We can look into extension data it is a matter of balancing everything we have on our plate.

If extensions were to use private tab session (which would then get destroyed on close) that means they would start from 'scratch' every time, so you would have to login to your bitwarden every time you want to use it in a private tab.

Vlad I don't use Chrome at all and I use Temporary Containers extension in Firefox which is imho better than private mode. And it's actually LibreWolf, not plain Firefox. So there is no problem with Bitwarden extension.

upd. Just wanted to add that in Safari in private mode everything is clean. Probably because they're using different type of extensions
