Different app icons for more profiles, way of disabling badge on app icon

With the new profile feature, I love that it opens a separate app, so you can switch between the profiles more easily, this was always a constant pain for me in Chrome, because I had to shuffle between various profiles and private windows and I never knew what it will land on.

But it would be cool if we had more app icon options now, for example something like work, shopping, etc. related. I'd like to have it more prominent, the badge icon makes it more distracting, it makes me think there is something that requires my attention.
A way to disable the badge icon on the app icon. As mentioned, it is distracting and makes you think you have to do something in the app, and it stands out too much from the other apps in the dock. It would be cool if those were also available in different shapes that were popular few years ago, and not just the standard squircles (I prefer the rounded icon that is available in Orion right now). Few suggestions: a rocket with a star, space station, galaxy, a different planet (Earth, Mars, Neptune with a star in the middle< perhaps?), these seem to be in the theme for Orion.

These additional icons might be available for free, or an option for Orion+ supporters.

Can you give an idea of what Orion extra icons would look like? I have trouble imagining anything better than Orion icon with briefcase emoji for Orion work
You can already do this under File -> Profiles. Do you have a suggestion how to better surface this?

I think you might be able to change the icon the way you'd change an app icon normally. take a look at: https://9to5mac.com/2021/11/08/change-mac-icons/, but for the first step, opent he profile, right click on the app icon, and options -> show in finder instead to find out where the profile "app" is stored

eirk I know how to change icons on mac, but that is always overriden when the app updates itself, at least that is the case for main app. Will try for this profile app bundle, since it may work differently, but it would still be nice to be able to do it natively from within the app with official icons.

I tried that but it doesn't work. It only changes the icon in the dock when the app/profile is not running, once you run it, it will revert back to the old profile icon that Orion generated. It must be cached/overriding somewhere else still, even if I replace generated the AppIcon.icns inside the bundle.

I tried a Mars icon from this pack and it looks cool, maybe something like that, but with Orion's star in the middle: https://findicons.com/pack/475/solar_system (example attached)

I imagine it would either appear under the same menu as name of the profile and badge, or in the Settings > Appearance, where you can already change the app icon. More options or an alternative to import a custom icns icon. For the badge you could add an option "without" in the dialog with the profile name and badge.

Currently I don't see an option to remove a badge, you can only change it. I would expect one of the options to be none, or a white circle with red slash through it.

Vlad I think it would be better if it were part of the edit profile dialog. That way it can be configured per profile. Right now I am not sure if it even works correctly, because as it is in the menu it makes sense to work globally for all profiles. But when I toggle it, it only removes badge on current app/window. When I switch to second profile and do the same there, it also removes badge for the second (now active) window. Might be related to those bugs where you need to restart the app/window.

Currently, if an emoji is used as a profile icon, the dock app icon has a white backgroundd added to the profile icon:

In the RC versions prior to the release of profiles, the emoji icons had a transparent background, making the dock experience arguably more visually pleasant:

A transparent background would make some emojis look silly (thanks eirk for the picture):

The vast majority of emojis do not need a white background to display properly. Thus, I would like to suggest the following options for the profile icons in the dock app icon:

transparent background
white background
a darker alternative to the white background (or even allow the user to pick the desired color using a color picker)

Having options for things like this sounds like a path to thousand options in the browser. We should agree to one approach.

I ran into an issue where the icon is white, and in the white background, it was completely invisible. In this case, with all the white on the main app icon, a transparent background would not work. Instead, the solution would be to make the background of the badge black

I would suggest 2 things:

A simple transparency switch like OP asked for .. for those who need it (this would be the only setting)
Make profile icons cause the badge background to automatically change color to avoid it blending in ... or change the white icons to be black
