  • Show Previous/Next Tab shortcuts intermittently stop working

  • BugsDesktopDone

Steps to reproduce:
Use Orion for a while. ⌥⌘◀︎ and ⌥⌘▶︎ shortcuts to move to the previous/next tab eventually stop working. Restarting Orion fixes the problem. Note that I usually use Orion in full screen mode; not sure if that has anything to do with it.

Expected behavior:
⌥⌘◀︎ and ⌥⌘▶︎ shortcuts continue to work.

Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Orion Version 0.99.115-beta (WebKit 614.1.12)
macOS Monterey 12.4
MacBook Pro (15-inch, 2019)

    soulsonic Not able to reproduce. "Use Orion for a while" is not exactly a great step to reproduce - can you be more specific?

      3 months later

      I have the same issue. Not "for a while" but I think since last update.
      Suddenly the Show Next Tab says ⌘1 instead of ⌥⌘▶︎ but hitting ⌘1 on the keyboard doesn't work.

      Also, restarting Orion doesn't help either.

      I guess my workaround for now is to replace it back to ⌥⌘▶︎ via the native macOS replace menu hotkeys feature.

      Any reason why this got changed to ⌘1 ?

        I'm also experiencing this issue. In addition to Cmd-Shift-►, Cmd-Shift-] is also broken on my system. In a new tab (just showing the Start Page) I get a system bell like I've pressed an illegal sequence. In any other page, there's no response and no reaction to the keypress (though the shortcuts for previous tab always seems to work).

        Ctrl-Tab and Ctrl-Shift-Tab are all fine, but my fingers don't like to contort that way anymore.

        dino Vlad not sure if it helps, and I should've mentioned: I have a US keyboard layout, but use Dvorak keyboard layout selected in the macOS keyboard settings. Not sure if this would affect some keyboard shortcut implementations on Orion's end, but I thought I'd mention.

        I've experienced games before that mapped moving to wasd, but didn't move it to the respective keys for Dvorak keyboards, leading the game to be unplayable for me without changing to a qwerty layout.

          mesqueeb Interesting I also use dvorak and am also experiencing this.

          Go to previous tab with cmd shift [ or left-arrow work, but the opposite operations with cmd shift ] and right-arrow don't work.

          Given that I learned about Mac OS's system-wide autofill with 1Password 8 I don't need that extension anymore, and Dark Reader and Vimium work. So I gave it a real shot to switch to Orion and these broken shortcuts stopped me in my tracks.

            I also have this problem. I'm on a U.S. keyboard but also have a secondary keyboard. But this problem started a few weeks ago, and I already had both keyboards then.

              I'm a new Orion user so I'm unsure if this feature already exists somewhere: you'll have to forgive me in that case since I'm a bit confused with the tab options in Preferences - as far as I understand it, I can't cycle between tabs using only one shortcut plus the left or right arrow. Correct?

              I'm used to doing this:
              [ Command + Option + Left/Right arrow ]
              In every browser I use, especially since I usually leave a lot of tabs open. I find it tedious and confusing to open a tab using:

              • its number [ Command + 1-9 ]

              • or by cycling in different directions with different shortcuts: [ Command + Option + Left arrow ] to cycle on the left AND [ Ctrl + Tab ] to cycle on the right

              • the tab switcher UI because... too many tabs

              Am I missing something? Could this perhaps be added as a feature?

              As for everything else, I'm already loving this browser so thank you for the hard work. 🙂

                Llew In Orion cmd option left right should work. It is also in Window menu as a shortcut? What do you experience?

                  Merged 2 posts from Switching between tabs with Command + Option + Left/Right arrow.

                    Vlad That shortcut only works with the left arrow, not the right. If I look at Orion's shortcuts in the Window menu it also confirms that:

                    Steps to reproduce:
                    Turn off "Use cmd-1 to cmd-9 to switch tabs" in prefs.

                    Right now the bindings appear to be:

                    "Show Previous Tab" is "cmd shift [left arrow? it's a non-standard triangle shape]"
                    "Show Next Tab" is "cmd 1" and doesn't actually work at all because that's set to load the first item in the tabbar.

                    Expected behavior:

                    There should be a pair of symmetrical keybindings... cmd-shift [/] or cmd-shift left/right and they should be wired up to work.

                    Orion 0.99.120-beta (WebKit 614.1.20)
                    macOS Version 12.6 (Build 21G115)
                    Mac14,2

                    if relevant:

                    • NewTabOpensTo => emptyPage
                    • ActiveLibraryTab => bookmarks
                    • ActivePreferenceTab => browsing
                    • UseTabSwitcherUI => 0

                    Image/Video:

                    dragging an image in here does NOT upload or paste it... it only shows it. Consider this a compound bug.

                      Merged 2 posts from Keys for tab switching are inconsistent / broken if cmd-# is not set.

                        Steps to reproduce:
                        The shortcuts for next tab are now different and unusable:

                        Expected behavior:
                        Keep CMD + ALT + RIGHT_ARROW as shortcut for next tab.

                        Orion, OS version; hardware type:

                        Orion: 0.99.120-beta
                        OS: MacOS 12.4
                        Hardware: M1 Max

                        Image/Video:
                        <Copy/paste or drag and drop to upload images or videos (up to 20MB)>

                          Shortcuts CTRL + TAB and CTRL + SHIFT + TAB still work, so I'm going to use that for now.
