This is properly not an option. But having the option to use iCloud Private Relay in Orion would be fantastic.

uremast changed the title to ICloud Private Relay support .

This will require Apple to add support - currently, apps have no control over private relay.

Private relay can be used currently for Safari, Safari Tech Preview, and other apps that make plain unsecure HTTP requests (i.e. port 80), as well as for the built-in mail app. There is a whitelist of bundles currently in place, so I don't think there's anything third party apps can do currently.

Perhaps when it leaves private beta, there will be options for other apps to use it. With WWDC coming soon, it might be worth looking to see what comes up.

+1 for iCloud+ private relay in Orion.

I guess nothing changed after the beta?

          Thanks Vlad

But I think gp is talking about the "private replay" been in beta back in June 2022 and not Orion it self.

This is still the case - "regular" apps don't seem to be able to take advantage of private relay, unless doing plain HTTP over port 80.

Thanks for your replay gp !

              Just to clearify things here:
private relay left the beta state since you menationed it in June 2022 and Apple still doesn't allow other apps to use it as you meantion in your prevouse replay.

              Thank you!

FYI: (Mobile only) The Shortcuts app has been recently updated and you can now set automation to connect/disconnect VPN when you enter/exit the Orion app. This is comparable to how private relay works, assuming you trust your VPN provider. In my case, a VPN is significantly (almost 10x faster) than iCloud’s multi-hop architecture.

Don’t forget to also enable/disable VPN On Demand.

              Caveats:

              1. Shortcuts automations take a couple minutes to start running after device restart
              2. VPN stays connected when you turn the phone off with Orion open

is there any way to workaround Apple's limitation and tap into private relay by somehow impersonating Safari or Mail?

This is one of the few items holding me back from committing to Orion. I'm trying to decide if not having that but having Orion's features if better than just having private relay. I don't want my ISP tracking the sites I visit.
