Steps to reproduce:

  • install Yomichan extension
  • install a dictionary to it (https://foosoft.net/projects/yomichan/#dictionaries)
  • go to a page with Japanese text on it
  • hit the shift button to try to see a translation
  • it appears to (not consistently) highlight the Japanese word, but then doesn't show the tooltip with a translation in it

Expected behavior:

  • it shows the translation tooltip

would really love to see support for yomichan in orion on ipados/ios. I have it working on android using kiwibrowser. it doesn't work on the desktop or mobile versions of orion for me. this would be a real gamechanger for me.

Same issue here. Firstly, this extension occurs from either Firefox or Chrome browser extension.

      This is the expected behaviour:

      This popup should appear.

      However, this doesn't work.

Currently, the workaround is visiting the Yomichan extension settings and toggling "Use native window instead of embedded popup" -- which is what no one uses (takes too much screenspace)

      In Yomichan:
      Window section
Use a native browser window instead of an embedded popup (checked)

Perhaps this is a permissions issue?

There is a similar Safari/webkit extension called Safarikai which does the same thing (but is worse/less feature rich than Yomichan).

There's also other features on Yomichan not yet tested, such as use Local Storage, that may not work as well.

This extension is probably the #1 reason (apart from compact tabs) that I haven't tried using Orion as a daily driver.

I tried the workaround suggested by tertiaryJP but it didn't work. I also tested yomitan (yomichan's sucessor) and 10ten reader, but had no success either.

I installed 10ten for Safari using the mac app store and then used the add extension from disk option in Orion to select the .app from /Applications and it installed it. It works - if I hold the option key, it does the pop up over words. Doesn't seem to work without the key being held, though.
