When you cross out the downloads pane, it goes away. Make the downloads pane reappear by letting it stay on the toolbar or somewhere else hidden under a sub menu. Right now the only way to make it reappear is to download something again, which is in inconvenient.
Make the downloads pane reappear

I mean this Vlad. I just discovered a bug while recording this for you. The clear button doesn't work if something is downloading. I don't remember if it was always like that or if it worked before.
Anyways, once you do close that pane by pressing that clear button, there's no other way to view that pane again. Unless you download something else. That's what I meant by cross out the pane.
P.S. Edit: Bug #2 found. I just noticed that the file that I was downloading in this sample video, those files are in my downloads folder. One third downloaded, till the point where I cancelled the download. That means Orion isn't cancelling my download like other browsers do. It just cancels the remaining download of the file leaving the incomplete downloaded file in my downloads folder. All other browsers cancels the download and then deletes the incomplete folder from the downloads folder, leaving no trace.
Vlad ok, there are 2 issues. Sorry for merging them. 1st if you cancel the download and press the clear button. Then there is no way to return that download pane again see the downloads. Sometimes it's useful to right click to press "Reveal in finder". 2nd issue is that even after cancelling, the half-downloaded files were still present in my downloads folder, they weren't deleted after being cancelled. I don't think that's normal.
Soum Both things you've pointed out in this post are not issues, and are exactly how they are supposed to work. If you want to keep the downloads pane available for future reference, then do not click the clear button. Secondly, the clear button intentionally does not get rid of currently active downloads, that's counter intuitive as the user would not know if something is currently being downloaded or not. Lastly, the clear button does not delete any files, it simply empties the list of things you have most recently downloaded, if you want to delete a half downloaded file you need to manually go into your downloads folder to and delete it yourself.
All of these things are exactly the same in Safari as they are in Orion.

JunkBrunstoe that's ridiculous mindset. Why Orion follows Safari like a dog follows its tail in circles? Does Orion want to be called the Safari wrapper browser? Or the skin of safari? Saw this being said in the subreddits. Initially I didn't agree and still don't want to agree to that, but if it continues to just be a mediocre safari follower then it'll be called those names.
I never use Safari, so I don't know if these issues are in Safari or not, but they definitely don't exist in any other browser.
- You can make the downloads pane reappear in Chromium and Firefox browsers.
- If you cancel the download then the half downloaded files automatically get deleted in literally all other browsers - chromium based and Firefox.
Orion isn't improving at all. For the last few months only changes are being implemented that make it look and feel more like safari (except the web extensions api support which is the only selling point for Orion at this point)
Even the profiles & containers aren't implemented even though sooo many people upvoted it. @Vlad you are killing your own browser with your obsession with Safari, rather than doing what other browsers do, even though you have 120+ browsers installed on your Mac - for what? Just for the sake of it or observing what they're doing and then do it better? Forget about doing better, atleast make sure you are observing what they are already doing right rather than just looking at Safari?

None of that really. We follow Safari's lead because Safari is the reference browser on macOS, made by the very manufacturer of the OS you are using. This means that Safari incorporates all HIG (Human Interface Guidelines) and is as native app as you can get. Now, you can argue if Apple made good or bad choices in HIG, but the fact you are using an Apple product means that most of the time you probably approve Apple HIG.
We want Orion to be a native app and feel like a native app. This means following the same guidelines. It is easy to make a precedent and once you go that road, you easilly end up with a browser that looks and feels completely out of place on macOS like Firefox or Chrome (which is mostly because they were originally built for Windows, and just ported the same codebase/UX to macOS). There are plenty of non-native browsers on macOS, and we are not interested in making yet another non-native browser.
Having said that, we are always looking for ways to improve over Safari without jeopardizing HIG. We did that many times already.
So we need a clear argument and users clearly supporting a certain way of doing things. In this case we have a total of one user for this change and one against, so you cna hardly argue there is a strong support for the change.
