Is there a way to save a tab group like in Safari? Once I close the window, it does not appear to be a way to open them up again. Thank you.

Thanks, that is great. Really liking Orion. Very nice job.

Triduelist Great idea - except that Session Buddy doesn't appear to work in Orion. Extension support in this browser is dreadful!

      • eirk replied to this.

phillip All the developers for Orion have tirelessly written most of the extension API functions in order for Orion to be compatible with Firefox and Google Chrome extensions. It isn't that Orion originally could support all of these extensions, but it is currently a beta. Instead of calling Orion supporting extensions "dreadful", how about upvoting the issue on session buddy not working properly?

eirk Support for cross-browser bookmark sync is vital for a beta product. I know this is not to do with the current topic, but is a large part of my frustration over extensions. Clearly as a beta Orion is not ready for prime time so we have to revert to another browser on occasions. Any bookmarks we have made while using Orion are not available in the other browser. To me it appears that the Orion developers are doing everything possible not to support bookmarking extensions such as xbrowsersync or floccus. What they have given us is the ability to sync from one version of the beta browser to another. If cross-bowser syncing were possible I would have no hesitation in using/testing Orion. As it stands my workflow is severely hampered. Upvoting is not where I intend to go. I will walk instead. This is not a popularity contest - sometimes common sense must prevail.

This is a very biased personal opinion. Orion is a beta product, meaning that it is in development. It does not at all mean that it would have all the features of a much older browser, such as the 14-year-old Google Chrome, or the 19-year-old Safari. Orion been in development for only months, and cannot compete with such a mature browser.

Clearly as a beta Orion is not ready for prime time so we have to revert to another browser on occasions.

This is indeed what many of the users do. Some may use Orion as their main browser, reverting to a different one when Orion is unable to handle it. Some may use Orion as a browser only for testing it, and use a different browser as their main one.

To me it appears that the Orion developers are doing everything possible not to support bookmarking extensions such as xbrowsersync or floccus.

There are 1,548 posts (excluding nofix) on this forum as of right now, 415 (next release + done) of which are done, as well as another 563 (planned + coming soon) which will be done soon. Orion has averaged 46 tasks done per release. At this current rate, it will take 34 releases to resolve all of them. They are focused on the more important issues. Also, they cannot spend time to individually support one of the thousands (maybe even millions) of Chrome and Firefox extensiosn that there exist. Instead, they work by slowly implementing the functions for the entire extensions API, allowing for complete support for all extensions

Upvoting is not where I intend to go. ... This is not a popularity contest - sometimes common sense must prevail.

It is perfectly fine if you disagree with the current strategy of how Orion prioritizes its issues–by popularity. It is not possible for the developers to comb through every issue, and individually fix the ones that a minority of the users think are very important. Instead, they use the ratings that the the users provide, giving them an indicator of the demand for the feature request. If you can provide a much better alternative strategy that does not require a large amount of time spent on the part of the developers, feel free to share if.

            I will walk instead.

If you dislike Orion, or dislike anything about it, feel free to stop using it. No one is forcing anybody to use Orion. Being a beta tester for Orion is completely voluntary.

eirk Thank you for your suggestion. I will remove Orion from my system and stick with Firefox. No point being a beta tester when suggestions and bugs are ignored.

              • eirk replied to this.

eirk Oh great. I can now sync to another instance of the same beta browser. How does that help my workflow when the bookmarks are not kept in sync? Am I supposed to manually add bookmarks to my other browsers or vice versa? Tell me how YOU use Orion. You're browsing, you add bookmarks as you go, then need to use another browser for some reason - but all the bookmarks you added to Orion are not available to you in, say, Firefox. What is biased and personal about that? Please share your workflow.

It is absolutely not that suggestions and bugs are ignored, but that the developers need to prioritize certain issues above others. They will not allow certain users who feel more privileged than others to demand features. They take a different approach, as I had already explained.

                    phillip

As I have stated, this is a beta browser. THis is not a browser that is does 100% of everything that every single person may want.

What is biased and personal about that?

Only you have complained this much about Orion not supporting a certain extension for syncing. Everyone else is willing to accept that Orion is a beta app, and doesn't support everything.

                    Please share your workflow.

I am perfectly fine with using Orion 99% of the time. I may sometimes switch back to using a different browser when Orion fails to function it. I merely copy the URL of the website I'm on in Orion, switch to a different browser, and paste the link in the address bar. I do not switch to a different browser completely.

If Orion has some major bug, and I need to switch to using a different browser, I can export and re-import my bookmarks to that browser, taking less than a minute to do.

@phillip No one is begging you to stay. Feel free to stop using Orion anytime, and remove it from your system.

Think you for the wonderful support and the continuous movement forward on this product. I really like Orion.

Don't listen to, or waste too much time with, people who are non reasonable. They will, likely, never be satisfied.

                      Yall are doing great!

Redcliff Yep. Wonderful support! It basically consists of 'If you don't like it, no one is begging you to stay'. 'Don't waste too much time with people who are non reasonable' (ie. with whom I do not agree). Utterly arrogant. Orion is now a popularity contest. If your issue is not popular it doesn't get fixed. That is no way to build software.
