PDFs cannot open after update

I updated Orion to the latest version (Version 1.0.1 (140) WebKit 624.1.2.19.2 Build date December 22, 2025), and can suddenly not view PDFs in Orion anymore. Tested with local PDFs and URL PDFs.

What I tried

Tested on Safari; no issues there, I can view PDFs as normal.
Turned on Compatibility mode; issues persists.
Tested on Clean Orion profile; issue persists.

Error

Opening Web Inspector in a PDF tab reveals the following error:
[Error] Failed to load resource: unsupported URL (viewer.html, line 0) webkit-pdfjs-viewer://pdfjs/web/viewer.html?file=

Open a PDF in Orion browser and view as usual.

I am able to reproduce this. Frustratingly I did not seem to notice/test this during the testing period.

As a workaround, you can disable PDF.js via Develop → Experimental features → HTML → toggle OFFEnable PDF.js viewer. This should allow you to view PDF files while this feature is being fixed.

Had to switch back to Edge for work because of this bug. Thank you for the workaround. Hope it's addressed in an update soon.

Clicking on the button should open the pdf in the browser

Looks like this bug is mostly similar to https://orionfeedback.org/d/7450-viewing-a-pdf-document-using-pdfjs-requires-the-tab-to-be-reloaded-before-the-pdf-is-displayed, except that i still cannot see the pdf on reloading, and i dont see the pdf viewer toolbar either

laiz thanks for the workaround! im curious whats pdf.js even for if pdfs can be viewed without it?

I'm also having this issue. Will open a PDF URL and just get an empty page. Did the testing steps same as the others in this thread.

I also ran into this but found refreshing the blank page will make the PDF viewer work.

I have a similar issue trying to get statements from my bank web page. This works on Safari and ARC. I have tried suggested fixes but no progress. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Disable the Enable the PDF.js viewer option in Develop > Expermental Features > HTML. That should fix it.

I am trying to open this web page/PDF in Orion. Instead of opening, I just get this console log error. I can open this successfully in Firefox, Safari, and Chrome.

I have enabled compatibility mode and ensured that the user agent is Safari. Neither of these help.

I expected this PDF to either open in Orion or download the file.

JustinNoel This appears to be a conflict with the builtin PDF viewer and the newer WebKit used in the Orion for newer macOS.

The PDF at the end of that link as well as many others open fine in Orion 1.0.1 for Catalina (old WebKit) but didn't work with Orion 1.0.1 for Sonoma (new WebKit). There I just get a blank screen instead of a rendering (didn't check the Console but probably a similar message as you did). Additionally, running the Monterey version of Orion 1.0.1 (old WebKit) on Sonoma opens all the same PDF Files fine (note running a mismatch of Orion and OS is not supported but I did here for testing).
