I rely heavily on the Tab Groups extension in Firefox. One feature that I've found especially useful is the ability to move tabs between tab groups using keyboard shortcuts. I can configure this shortcut to my liking in the extension's settings page.

In Firefox, the workflow goes something like this:

  1. I'm on a tab that I'd like to move to a different tab group.
  2. I press the shortcut to move the tab, and a navigation menu pops up: (I've blacked out my tab group names)

This is similar in style to the control+tab tab navigation menu currently in Orion.
  3. From here, I can use my arrow keys/mouse to select the tab group that I'd like to move it to.

There's a similar workflow (attached to a different keyboard shortcut) for moving between tab groups:

I know Orion already has shortcuts for switching between different windows (command+option+1/2/3/etc), but I prefer pop-up navigation windows as I have quite a few tab groups and I always forget which window is bound to which number. For the same reason, using command+tilde to switch between many windows is fairly inefficient.

If nothing else, I would like to configure the shortcuts for switching between the different windows (command+option is not my favorite set of modifiers to press).

I realize this might only be useful for power users like myself. However, since all the UI is hidden away behind keyboard shortcuts, at the very least it won't be confusing to new users.

science_browser There are multiple asks here, so we would like to understand what is being requested.

It is not a good idea to have multiple requests on one card as then we do not know which one is crowd favorite, and the entire card depends on us finding time to do everything (which given other-workload will converge towards infinity).

My recommendation is to either simplify this card to an MVP or create multiple cards describing different functionality.

One simple thing that I see can be done and is not mentioned in your suggestion is adding search for window functionality inside the address bar. Currently it searches only for tabs but we can easily add ability to switch a window. This way, at least navigation between multiple window will be made easier.

Another thing we could do is built a window switcher UI similar to the new tab switcher UI. Just some thoughts.

I like your suggestion for incorporating window switching inside the address bar. Search seems like it's the future of navigation anyway, much like spotlight search/Alfred for OS navigation and search engines for internet navigation. The only thing that I'm concerned about is how consistent/deterministic the expected behavior will be. I can see it becoming annoying if I want to search for something, but instead I'm accidentally sent to a window with a similar name.

Since we're on the topic of window switching, perhaps this card can be the one corresponding to window switching, and I'll create a separate card for the other requested feature of quickly moving tabs to other windows.

Vlad changed the title to Show Window name in search results .

I would imagine we would place matching Windows in the Switch To Window section of autosuggestions.

            @Vlad done.
can switch windows from addr bar now (show as top hits)
can use custom shortcuts to switch windows

            No one is typing
