Store bookmarks in the filesystem

Orion should store bookmarks as files. Each bookmark is a file inside a bookmarks directory.

There should be a "open in file explorer" button to open the directory in system file explorer.

I have trouble managing bookmarks in Firefox because the affordance is so bad.

First, when I want to store a bookmark, I only need to put specific bookmarks in folders, and the rest in "Other bookmarks". The behavior of Firefox (not configurable) is to always use the last folder chosen by default.

Also, managing existing bookmarks is a pain, as the GUI doesn't allow me to use UNIX tools to move bookmarks around.

If possible, I hope Orion will store bookmarks as files so I can manage them with file explorers that have way better afordance.

File system is orderless, while bookmarks are ordered. If each bookmark is a file, how do we preserve the order information?

How should we handle special characters in a bookmark's name that are invalid in the file system?

Will making it file-based cause more disk usage compared to a single database file?

Does this improve the UX in GUI manager?

These are just some of the questions that need to be answered if we really want it to be file-based. But I think we should figure out what the real problem is. You want the bookmarks to be file-based, because the GUI manager is bad. But making it file-based doesn't really solve the problem. The GUI manager still sucks.

Maybe we should try to make the built-in GUI manager better for batch operations, so every user can benefit from it?

ix4n33 I guess so. The main problem is that I can't/don't like using mouse to save a bookmark, then select from a dropdown where to store it. I hope I can press Ctrl+D, type in the folder (full path), then press Enter to save. It's like saving a file.

that's hardly a concern...

I still want bookmarks to be files in a file system because tools to move files around is way more mature than handling bookmarks in a database.
