Whoa, nice find! Based on my testing it seems to be happening only when the phone is being held horizontally. I was able to reproduce the crashes that way and I have sent a couple of crash reports to the team.
As a workaround, hold your phone vertically when you open a new private tab. After that you can rotate it again.
