Sidebar minimum width could be lower

I like to use my vertical tabs sidebar in collapsed mode, where I can only see the icons of the tabs and not the whole name.

For that reason I don't need the standard width and I can resize sidebar width to be lower and it's nice that Orion disables the tab titles once I reach specific width threshold.

However I find the minimum width limit to be still quite large resulting in unnecessary & bit ugly padding.

Example from Zen browser that really utilizes the space in such mode effectively without unnecessary paddings:

I feel the vertical bar has a lot of wasted space when one is viewing only icons -

It's alright when I am viewing the names of the web pages.

Comparing to other browsers orion takes a lot more space with its vertical tabs

can you please add a compact vertical tabs mode

It's unnecessary to use the space that you do just for a small favicon. you could make it less wide

Microsoft Edge allows vertical tabs in either a "compact" mode where only thumbnails are shown, or a full-width toolbar mode, as shown in this article (https://www.howtogeek.com/697986/how-to-enable-and-use-vertical-tabs-in-microsoft-edge/ links don't seem to work for me...). I would appreciate this sort of mode or a keyboard shortcut to show/hide the tab bar as screen real estate is at a premium when I'm using my laptop on the go. Thank you!

I've been using the following implementation of the sidebar alongside Firefox for the past few years.

I believe a collapsible sidebar would be beneficial for smaller screens - as sites are easily identifiable with the sidebar favicon, and full page titles are given upon hover.

s2e3440z I don't like this. I don't like the fact that you have to use the mouse. Perhaps a keyboard toggle would be better, albeit still not in line with native macOS standards, as there aren't any applications which show the sidebar like that.

This would be a welcome addition for the vertical tabs people. As long as the hover duration to expand the sidebar isn’t an eternity like Microsoft Edge’s version, I vote for it.

Fortrikka Well, keyboard shortcuts still work fine - in my opinion, the only time I would ever need to see the titles are if I was hovering over to click them, otherwise, cmd+1...cmd+9 and ctrl+tab are great based only off of favicons.

Auto-expanding UI elements are not advised by macOS guides, according to Vlad. Better to have something similar to what safari has with it's spaces bar that activates from shortcut and mouse

Alternatively, it could be nice if larger siteicons could be shown, but of couse in the wild many/most are likely to just have the 16x16 'old' standard, vs larger site icons offered for mobile browsers to "save to homescreen".

One of the reason I use edge as my daily web browser is that it has vertical tabs. not only that but it also has the option to collapse the side bar so it's minimized and out of the way so that I can maximize my screen for the contents of the website; and when I want to browse my tabs, upon mouse hover, it expands the side bar so I can fully read the titles.

When I heard that Orion is doing similar but with Webkit, I was so excited! So can U please consider giving us this option? cause that and PWAs were the two main features I missed when using Safari.

This already exists? Hide sidebar in the menu bar, and in full screen when you hover on the side it pops back up again until you hover off.

TheOtherKai Yeah it kinda exist but the implementation is not the same as edge. U see Edge has the option to minimize the sidebar automatically so your screen real state is maximized. and whenever you hover over the side bar it collapses to show the name of the tabs so you can see all your open tabs at a glance. and in my opinion that's very useful.

but here at Orion U have to manually hide and show the sidebar from the menu bar which is not convenient at all.

TheOtherKai yeah you are right. but it would be nice to have this feature at anytime not just when the browser is in full screen
