  • Grey Bars appear when watching a YouTube video in full screen that blocks any buttons from being pressed

  • BugsMobileNofix

Whenever I try to watch a YouTube video in full screen for some reason there is a grey bar that shows at the top and bottom of the video. The top one is fine but the bottom one blocked the buttons and I can't even pause the video and it's completely blocked off. I did some testing and it is exactly like this on safari and the only way to fix it was to log out of my Google account and it magically fixed itself. I even created a new Google account to see if it would have the same grey Bars issue and it didn't. It's only my main Google account that where I watch YouTube videos in full screen that the grey Bars appear. Changing Theme settings had no effect on it.

Clicking full screen on a video should just be normal and show all the bottom and the progress bar and nothing should be cut off

Axel Hey. I'm using it every night and have never seen that.
Do you have any extensions activated?

Hi Axel, thank you for taking the time to report this bug!

What do you mean when you say the following?

I did some testing and it is exactly like this on safari

Do you observe the same grey bars on Safari with your main account?

Thank you for your help in making Orion a better browser!

      • Axel replied to this.

Yannick nope no extensions. I actually only knew that the issue got fixed when I logged out was when I uninstalled the app and reinstalled it but forgot to log back in and I saw no grey bars. But when I logged into my account it was back. I even created a new fresh YouTube account and there were no grey bars either.

Yannick it’s probably because somehow your YouTube account doesn’t have the issue. It seems that something in my main account causes the grey bar issue. But I tried everything that I could find in settings to see if I could fix it and nothing. Setting the themes doesn’t do anything

Hi Axel, thank you for the detailed responses!

If you observe the same buggy behaviour on Safari and Orion, and the apparent fix is to use a different account, in my opinion this points to being an issue with Youtube itself?

Ok, hundreds of websites report the same problem. It's probably related to YouTube itself. Nice, @jeanetienne. I'm closing the ticket for now.

Yannick which means I would have to wait until it just randomly gets itself fixed one day?

                  5 days later

Axel it means the issue lies with Youtube itself, not with the browser. There's nothing we can do about this issue. Please feel free to report this issue with Youtube.
