1Password extension appears to cause extreme lag

When I have the 1Password extension enabled on Orion, it seems to be causing a lot of really annoying lag. First off, when in a field that can be autofilled, the little password menu takes forever to show up. Additionally, it also seems to be causing extreme lag on input fields, even when they're not email or password fields. I tried using it on Chrome and it works very well. I'm getting a little frustrated because it's probably the best password solution that I have, but it's also causing a lot of annoyances.

Preferably, the extension wouldn't be causing performance issues or lag at all in Orion.

I've been having the same kind of issues for a while.

Dropdown on the input fields lagging a lot and taking a long time to show up
It sometimes disappears before I'm able to click anything
Sometimes it is unresponsive, like I click on my credentials in the dropdown but it is not filling out anything

Lou yeah, it definitely frustrates me, especially since orion is virtually the only solution for what i need in a browser. i need a web-kit based browser that natively integrates with macos (like touch ID for sign in with apple, native icloud passkeys etc.), but there’s also a lot of chrome/firefox extensions that are really nice to use like bettercanvas. orion is a really amazing browser as a concept, but it maybe isn’t necessarily perfectly executed. it won’t push me away though, it’s just one of those little annoyances that i choose to deal with.

Just chiming in to echo this issue!

Using the Speedometer 3.1 browser benchmark, just enabling 1Password takes me from a score of 38 to 10.

I've tried both Chrome and Firefox versions

Chiming in to say that my experience with 1Password on Orion lately has been so performance-degrading as to have caused me to disable it. It takes my Speedometer score down from 16 to 9, and sometimes it can take 15 seconds per key typed (!) in certain password fields. I am thinking it's a javascript thing.

I tried this speed test and 1password made no difference - in fact in one run it was faster than without!!!!

With the same set up two successive runs gave 13±1.4 and 22±7.1 so take results with a grain of salt.

re 1password I use it so it is connected to the mac application and not the pure browser extension.

An extension that does slow things down is Dark Reader (down to 5) Orions tweaks are much faster not giving a noticeable slowdown however the benchmark site does show the m,ain reason I still use Dark Reader - with Orion tweaks the start button and the results are dark grey on black - so not readable

Thanks bestlem. In this thread we are specifically discussing Orion with the 1Password web browser extension installed and enabled.

I understand that speedometer runs can give different results sometimes, which is why I was careful to take several readings each time and choose the representative ones. It was fairly consistent for me.

I was also talking about 1password extension on Orion

For me it does not affect the speed on that test.

The point I was making is that 1password can run in two ways. Either a pure extension all in the browser talking directly top 1password servers or the browser extension talks to the 1password app on the Mac

I use the latter and see no effect.

I do not see any mention of the two possible types of 1password use in this thread and wondered if using the other form makes a difference.

Yes, for me I'm using it in the same way as you - web extension connected to 1Password native app.

Just also to add some more information about the way it manifests for me:
With the extension active, on clicking on any input field I experience a lag of between 0.5 and 2 seconds. It's not always the same; but it is consistent within the same webpage. With the extension disabled, I experience no lag.

@robrecord - yes I see that lag as well when using a password field etc - however that is not the speed issue that Speedometer measures

So I suspect this thread is talking about at least two issues,
