Tab title fonts condense and expand with tab size [UI/UX]
Perhaps there may be some un-tight code that simply stretches the text.

FWIW I've often seen the same thing, it always looked like an intentional feature with some minor kinks to work out, and I actually like it better than ellipses when moderately condensing. Finder does it too in columns mode. Finder used to do it too in columns mode, I seem to remember.
Kinks to work out though because sometimes the condensing goes too far. Not always though, I haven't worked out reproduction steps of when it works fine and when the condensing goes too far.
macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7 (19H1615)

Vlad Sure, will do. It very well could be a Catalina issue, not sure how much Orion is intended to support users on macOS 10, but I'd figure not too much in the long-run given the audience (ordered the new M1 Pro a month ago and totally hyped for the long overdue hardware & OS upgrade to arrive soon ).
Re: pieterv's reply, I also originally thought it could be a feature rather than a bug because the exaggerated condensing effect does kinda look neat when quickly scrolling across a bunch of tabs; sorta makes it look like a bubble or magnifying glass overlay (GIF below). Although functionally, it can be a bit distracting and odd, at least the way it looks on my screen.
Seems like the selection/deselection of a tab triggers its width to scale and effects contained text as well, but at the end the text clipping & font dimensions bounces and corrects to take on its intended active/inactive look... I guess that's where the cause of the "ultra-condensed" view that we're unable to reproduce now lies and is just a result of giving that algorithm a very unique set of inputs/conditions?
Not sure if any scaling of the text itself was intended though so (absent original issue) here's what I'm seeing:
Hi Vlad , seeing something similar here. Seems to be the first (leftmost) tab that is most affected.
macOS Catalina Version 10.15.7
Orion Version 0.99.109.1-beta (WebKit 613.1.12)
Steps to reproduce:
- Open a new window
- Load this page:
- Wait for it to finish loading
- Add a new tab with Cmd+T (if the issue is not visible, add another tab)
Expected behavior:
The title in the first tab should be truncated. Instead, the label tries to squeeze the text to make as many letters visible as possible in the little space available, making it hard to read.
Orion, OS version; hardware type:
Version 0.99.110-beta (WebKit 613.1.12)
iMac 21" 2019, macOS Catalina 10.15.7
Image/Video:
When the tab is reloaded, the text looks ok.
After you close some other tabs, making this tab wider, the text instead looks too expanded.
This seems to be a duplicate of: https://orionfeedback.org/d/1023-tab-title-fonts-condense-and-expand-with-tab-size-uiux
I can not presently reproduce this on macOS 10.15 (Catalina)
Marking this Done since it seems to have been fixed previously
