Coming from Arc I really miss pro active tab management in Orion.
Orion happily lets me get into 100+ open tabs, slowing down Orion (despite tab sleeping) and making it sluggish. Because it does nothing to help me keep tabs... on my tabs, I just pile more and more tabs onto the already large number of tabs.
While Orion (too) subtly suggests tabs for a domain I already have open tabs for when surfing to a new tab, it doesn't proactively help me not create a mess of my tabs.
Much like with human healthcare, preventative measures go along way to stave off "fixing work" later!
Arc solved this rather nicely with some of their Arc Max features.
Even just letting my sort and group tabs by domain would go a long way to get us started. If I have 13 tabs open on the same domain all scattered across my vertical tab bar... well, that SUCKS. If I could sort and group all 372 tabs with a click, I could quickly parse the whole list and close entire groups of tabs super quickly. Ideally Orion would help with all of this, smartly suggesting tab groups to close because they've been sitting there for days or weeks...
What does your feature entail? What is it for?
It entails keeping me sane by helping me manage tab overload.
How will it affect existing workflows or user experience?
Positively. Very, very positively.
Arc is the best example I have.
They intelligently leveraged AI to
- group related tabs together into categories
- rename tab titles
- as a consequence, sort tabs
Ideally the implementation would be a mix of proactivity and user choice. I should be able to click to help me make sense of my current tab situation and then act on it... but I'd also like a setting that automates this and KEEPS me organized all the time.
