  • When downloading a .csv file, download the file instead of displaying the contents in a new tab

When I attampt to download a .csv file from a website, the contents of the .csv are displayed in a new tab instead of automatically downloading the .csv file into my downlaods folder.
Currently, I have to perform the additional step to download the data: File -> Save Page...
It would be nice for there to be an option to always download .csv files instead of displaying them. If this already exists or there is another similar request, please let me know.
Thanks for making a great browser!

I would implement this feature by adding a checkbox option in Orion's settings called "Automatically download .csv (or other applicable formats)". It could be grouped with the other preferences related to downloads in the "General" tab.
In my experience with Safari and Edge, .csv files are never displayed and always downloaded. I am not aware of any preferences to change this behavior.

Downloading those sample .csv files worked as expected. The files were downloaded instead of the displaying the .csv contents in a new tab.
After playing around with my use case a bit more I've discovered that both Orion and Safari have the same behavior. Both are displaying the contents of the .csv instead of downloading the contents directly for some links to .csv files. Edge and Firefox download the file instead. Maybe that's just how WebKit behaves for my situation.

It's nice of you to have tried, thank you.

Since we are using Safari's rendering engine, we can't really help you with that. The best thing is to redo your bug report (sorry) to Webkit, which manages the Safari/Orion engine.
