when I do a search with the search engine (in my case Brave but it happens with Google too), then I scroll through the results and enter one of the results, then when I go back to the search engine, I always find myself at the top of the list and not where I stopped scrolling.

I expect to return to the results list, but at the level where I stopped before choosing to open a page

    I was able to reproduce this behavior on brave search. Tapping back on Orion returns me to the top of the page whereas Safari remembers the page position. This bug has also existed before, see #4841
