  • 1password desktop quick access window when closed focus the wrong Orion window

  • BugsDesktopNofix

I have 2 profiles in my Orion browser: Personal and Work. I open them in sequence, e.g. I first open Work profile and then Personal one.

When I'm on the window of profile I opened second, and I open 1password desktop app's quick access window (I hit command + shift + space hotkey), when quick access window is closed I get my widow I opened first focused.

  1. Open Orion window with Profile 1.
  2. Open Orion window with Profile 2.
  3. Focus window with Profile 2.
  4. Open 1password quick access window (default hotkey is command + shift + space).
  5. Close 1password quick access window (I press esc).

I get: Orion window with Profile 1 is focused.
I expect: Orion window with Profile 2 is focused.

As a software developer I think it could be a bug in 1password. I believe that when user opens quick access window 1password saves the window that was focused before and switch focus to quick access window, and when quick access window is closed it tries to focus the window it believes was focused before. I'm not sure how 1password identify windows to focus but perhaps Orion windows have the same name (I'm not expert in native macOS development) and it causes problems?

I reported it to 1password as well in September last year and they said they know how to reproduce it but there is no fix yet. Maybe I'm wrong about my assumptions and maybe you can do something on Orion's side? Perhaps changing window ids or names for different profiles?

dzhlobo can you please try updating 1Password application and try again with Orion, as we are unable to reproduce this issue with our local setup.

      Thank you for checking it.

      I have the latest version of 1Password: 1Password for Mac 8.10.62 (81062027)

I'll try to recreate profiles in Orion and maybe reinstall it.

Do you have any suggestions on how I can debug it further maybe?

dzhlobo Thanks for more info. We were able to reproduce that finally and the same issue can be reproduced with any other macOS app if you have more then one instance open. After investigating all events, we found that it's on 1Password side, like how they handle activating apps.

1Password uses app's bundleIdentifier to activate that after hiding quick autofill window, and macOS focuses first open instance for the app identifier. However 1Password don't need to activate apps, as the new version of 1Password is already showing autofill window as overlay without making target app to lose focus.

@dino, thank you very much. I suspected this as well. I'll try to contact 1password again.
