milos Problems: Vertical Tabs layout is too densed, which is especially conspicuous when hovering a tab above or below the active tab. New Tab (+) button is kinda "floating" out of place, visually unrelated to anything that happens in sidebar. Proposed solutions: Add a 4px top marign on each tab Make a New Tab button look like tabs themselves This way, it should be easier to scan and click tabs, and with + button labeled, it should be clear and intuitive what will happen on click. It's also more beautiful to look at.
milos If you feel like 4px margin is too much, even the 2px margin can go a long way. On a second look, maybe it looks even better: It should also have an impact on vertical space when there're dozens of tabs opened 😃
milos Not sure if this should be a separate discussion, but I don't want to overwhelm the forum. These are indentation improvements: Indent space is larger, a Favicon aligns with the parent Tab Title. It's a lot easier to quickly scan and see where are the tabs coming from. There are no permanently visible arrows on the left side of favicons. This prevents tabs from jumping right-and-left when you want to open just one child (and then all of the tabs suddently shift to the right). The number next to the collapsed tab, that indicates how many child tabs are there, is moved next to the Tab Title. When you hover the parent tab, favicon becomes a chevron trigger, so you can collapse children. BONUS: Favicons have 2px border-radius, making them fit into the UI more nicely.
hsu milos Great idea and mockup! Would love to see as many improvements to vertical tabs as possible now that I can't live without it anymore (I blame Arc).
