when using movie streaming sites such as moviesjoy.is
or similars
ads are still popping up
and i don't mean banner ads
i mean ads that pop up over the screen, or pop up in new tabs / windows that need to be closed

initially, i noticed this on mobile. then i tried on desktop. happened on both. so i installed uBlockOrigin – and that helped on desktop (no more of these ads on desktop with that extension installed)

however, on mobile, it is STILL an issue even after installing that extension (and obviously is still a issue on desktop if i just uninstall the uBlockOrigin extension)

i expected the browser to block all ads by default with the pre-installed content blockers because i'd like to run this browser as LEAN as possible so ideally if it can block ANY kind of pop up ad as described above, without needing any extra content blocking extensions, that would be amazing.

Ad blocking is a difficult task as the team has to balance between maximizing ad blocking performance without breaking any sites. The current behavior is very much a compromise between the two.

The block lists used by Orion content blocker aren't also being applied perfectly so uBlock is outblocking Orion in some circumstances. I'm expecting this discrepancy to be remedied once #8026 eventually lands.

I'd also like to emphasize that proper ad blocking is one of the key features of the Orion browser as is highlighted in the documentation. So I am sure the team is doing everything they can to deliver the best possible performance.

completely agree that its a difficult task and that im sure the team is doing everything they can to deliver the best possible performance, and i just wanted to report what i found.

in the interim, is there anything i can do?

Have you updated the content blocker's rules manually?
