  • Too easy to close all tabs by accident - "Close Window" and "Close Tab" shortcuts too similar

  • BugsDesktopDone

Currently it's too easy to close all tabs (and whole window) by accident, as "Close Window" and "Close Tab" keyboard shortcuts are very similar.

Way to replicate the issue: I use extensively "Close Tab" (Command + W) shortcut to close tabs. Once in a while I can have Shift also pressed by accident while pressing Command + W intending to close a tab, but it actually closes the whole window instead. When I reopen the window all my tabs are gone, and I am not aware of an easy method to restore the accidentally closed tabs.

Possible fixes:

  • Make both keyboard shortcuts less similar.
  • After reopening the window provide an easy obvious way to restore the closed tabs.
  • When pressing Shirt + Command + W to close a window, have a pop-up asking for confirmation (similar to the one we have when we quit Orion browser).

You can use cmd-shift-t to restore the latest close action, whether it be close tab or close window. Is this what you're looking for?

signup Make both keyboard shortcuts less similar

Unfortunately I don't think this would be a good idea. Currently, every browser out there uses cmd-w, and cmd-shift-w for closing tab and window, respectively.

signup After reopening the window provide an easy obvious way to restore the closed tabs.

    perhaps cmd-shift-t?

This could be a good idea, but I suggest making a separate post just for this.

Nice, it works! 🙂 It reopens all tabs that were in the closed window. Was not obvious this could be done, thank you.

Hi @signup I assume we can consider this as done, so i'm going to close it.
Feel free to reopen if if needed.

If you still want to have confirmation pop-up - please open separate feature request post as @eirk suggested.
