When you move (via contextual menu) the last tab of a window to another window, Orion closes the visible window where the tab is moved from.
In my reasoning, when a user moves a tab to a different window he would want to continue browsing that tab in a different context.
When the originating window is just closed after the tab is moved, a user has to create a new window to be able to continue browsing. That makes for an extra (in my opinion unnecesarry) action.

While the closing of the window is logical behaviour (since there is no content anymore in that window) I would want to suggest that Orion switchs to the window where that tab is moved to instead of closing the window.

  • Then I would suggest to move the focus to the window where the tab is moved to. Seeing a window close unwantedly and having to open a new one falls for me in the category ‘making the app difficult to use’.

    That’s a good question.
    I think that would indeed work best for me.
    But I’m not sure that’s always the case for every user. Maybe someone is just cleaning up shop.

    I would suggest to start with activating the new window when you move the last tab in a window.

    And for cases where there are still more tabs left in the originating window, hold off of automatic switching until there is more feedback from other users in this thread.

      janpeeters I would like to avoid this kind of split behavior as it makes the app unpredictable to use.

            I noticed in the changelog of Version 0.99.130.4-rc (WebKit 621.1.2.111.4) Build date Jan 28 2025
            that this was implemented. Thanks for that.

            I saw that moving a tab from a named window to another named window activates the window to which the tab is moved.
            But when I move the last tab of the 'unnamed window' (I don't know if I'm using the right name, see screenshot) to a named window, than the window is just closed.
            I would've expected that also in this case the window to which the tabe has been moved would get focus.

              It could be that I have not been clear enough about what I would think that the solution would be but I thought that if I move a tab to another window, like in the video below. The window to which the tab has been moved would get activated. To never have the browser window closed after moving a tab unless I closed it myself.
