While not caused by alt+tabbing, I have found a consistent way to reproduce the issue of when the user switches back to Orion from some other program, the window doesn't become fully active until the user actually clicks on something. As will be shown in the video below, the tab icons/titles remain grayed out even though Orion is the active window as is highlighted in the macOS menu bar, essentially requiring the user to click twice to interact with something in Orion when switching back from another app. Safari does not require this extra click, instead performing the desired action upon first click.
Steps to reproduce:
- Enable compact tab layout in Orion settings
- Open at least 2 tabs
- Switch focus away from Orion to some other program
- Switch back to Orion by clicking one of the tabs in Orion tab bar
- Orion is now "active", the window can be scrolled but tabs remain grayed out, requiring the user to click again before any of their clicks register.
- Steps 1–4 work as expected on Safari, properly activating the window when a tab is clicked on.
At 0:11 you can see that clicking the Lobsters tab, switches to it, but the window remains in semi-inactive state as is highlighted by the grayed out tab titles. At 0:20 I click on the page, now fully making Orion the active window as can be seen in the tab titles.
Compare this to Safari:
Everything in the video above works as expected, requiring no extra clicks.
