For people with hundreds of items in the reading list, it would be hard to sort out which text from another if just merely scrolling forever in the start page, also relying on the combination of items in a place meant for only a mere espying of the saved documents would only facilitate confusion.
This is the current state of the reading list window, and I do not think that the same approach of the history would work here. Reading list is not a history file, perhaps we can maintain for compatibility the old view but as an alternative option to a new browser with thumbnails.
Even though it already exists in the start page, adding a dedicated page for it that is not merely just a list view would entail a greater understanding of what websites you would want to read in the future for reference.
