Opening a link in X PWA installed as an app will duplicate the main Orion window and all its tabs

Abstract

Clicking on a link on the X PWA app installed as App via Orion will duplicate Orion main thread with all its tabs.

Caveat: It happened 3 times, but I wasn't able to reproduce it immediately after it happened the last time. I just know it happens sometimes, and will try to identify precisely the trigger if I meet it again. Logging it hear in the meantime in case anyone else has met this.

To reproduce:

Install Orion
Go to https://x.com (& login)
Install as App
Open the app
Click on a href link in a tweet, any link from a tweet seems to do

Actual Result

It will duplicate the main window and all the tabs, you will have 2 Orion browser icons / main threads

Side-pain: If you close them incorrectly by pressing the red "close" icon, it will close all the tabs, and when closing / reopening Orion you will not be able to restore the tabs from history.

Expected result

It open a new tab in the main Orion window without duplicating it.

I managed to reproduce it. There doesn't seem to be a particular step that triggers it, both Orion and the "PWA installed as an app" were running for quite some time. It's not X specific, it's any PWA apparently.

Not sure whether this helps, but I think that's as much as I can collect. Not sure if there's extra data / logs I could collect, if there is, please feel free to tell me what to look for / where and I'll do it.

Vlad For sure. I've tried to find something deterministic, but couldn't figure it out yet unfortunately. The only thing I can tell is that it only happens from "PWA installed as App", but I couldn't find actual triggers yet.

Vlad Hmm, I've realized that one thing that PWAs do not seem to do or have is "Preview" threads. The little window that opens a preview of the link that you can choose to dismiss or open into the browser. I would wager that the "issue" lies into the handling of link previews within the context of a PWA.
