When I first used Orion it was very responsive even with 20 tabs open.

Now, after a couple days when I tried to play a youtube video, the screen was blurry and laggy.
I also tried google maps but it was very slow, I had to wait a long time before it could load my route.

I expected the youtube video and google maps to run smoothly even with multiple tabs of 20 open.

Would I be correct in assuming that quitting and relaunching Orion temporarily solves these performance issues? Even if you have all the same tabs open and loaded (i.e. not suspended). Moreover, has this happened before or is the recording of the first occurrence?

Clearly no browser should turn into a laggy mess in any circumstance but it is difficult to figure out what exactly is causing the blurriness and lag in your case. I see you have some rather heavy sites open (Google docs, Gmail, multiple YouTube tabs) alongside several installed extensions, both of which could be part of the solution.

If you have the time, testing the following things would be very helpful:

    • Are you able to reach this broken/laggy state on a fresh profile? (File -> Profiles -> New Profile) When testing this it is important to refrain from installing any extensions so the source of the issues can be narrowed down.
    • If everything works as expected without any extensions, install them one at a time, retesting after each extension. If this sounds too laborous, a list of the extensions you are using would also be helpful so we can try to replicate the issue.
    • How do Chrome and especially Safari handle a similar workload on your device? Have you noticed any issues on either of them?

I would consider myself to be pushing the limits of my base spec MBA M1 but I have not encountered anything like what you are showing in the report, which to me suggests an issue with extensions, but that is just a hunch.

ElizabethSLee First thing to try is to just start a new Orion profile with no extensions and then try to figure out what extension is causing this.

ElizabethSLee Hi Elizabeth, how much RAM does your MacBook have? I find that Orion works well at open but then gets slow as it grows in memory usage. Not "swapping" per-se but high values for related processes' Memory in Activity Monitor and lots of total Memory->Compressed. That's on a MacBook with 16GB of RAM where I typically run 20 tabs left open (beyond which things tend to get slower faster) and very frequent opening and closing of new private windows to research things.
