Issue:
When using the analysis board on Lichess.org, with the Stockfish analysis enabled, the piece animations become "laggy" and the website "chugs" a little bit. The computer seems to think more than with other browsers at this point and begins to heat up.

Steps to reproduce:

  • Go to https://lichess.org/analysis
  • Click the toggle on the right hand side to enable the Stockfish WASM analysis.
  • Move pieces around for both sides, more than one square if possible to see the "lag".

Hardware:
M2 Macbook Pro 14-inch, MacOS Sonoma 14.5

Orion Version:
0.99.128.1-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2)

Expected behavior:

  • Smooth pieces animations.
  • The website not "chugging".

Worth noting: While Orion is getting more "nodes per second" (about 1 million more nodes per second) for the chess engine calculations than Firefox, Firefox produces a much smoother experience. Unsure if this helps as a hint to the problem.

Sorry for the delay, I was out.

Safari has slightly slower animation performance than Firefox but the "jitter" is not as noticeable as in Orion.

Could be difference in WebKit we use
