An overview of working iOS extensions

Hi there,

Please consider providing a list with working iOS / iPadOS extensions, for example at https://help.kagi.com/orion/browser-extensions/ios-ipados-extensions.html

On macOS there’s the “popular extensions” screen, so you have some basics which are known to function properly.

It seems on iOS there’s no such thing, and randomly trying extensions, that sometimes work for 50%, is quite frustrating…

Nya There are 300,000 extensions out there, that change weekly. it is not clear how would be able to do this? Perhaps a community effort would be better.

I agree, however, would it not also be a good idea to at least provide “popular extensions” just like on macOS, so people know which of the "top X" extensions are working properly?

Nya We do not know what popular extensions on iOS are. (Orion does not track aything form the app). If someone submitted a list, we could consider implementing it.

This seems a cumbersome task, but I feel the need. I am using AdGuard but that doesn't work (cannot select a part of the website to block on iOS), I am not willing to try every block app to see if selecting an element works.

Just so OP has some understanding the footprint of the WebExtensions API is massive. Many parts of which haven’t been implemented but have been promised.

In the meantime, it might make sense to create a subforum where people can say “X works but these are the issues.”

To clarify; i fully understand this, from a Developers perspective. But none of that is relevant, from a normal users perspective;

Here's how the average person in my environment responds:

Hurray, Kagi supports extensions, lets download the browser
They download a few popular extensions
They can install them (get no errors) but then at some point find out it's not actually working (/properly)
They get confused
They get annoyed, and don't understand
They stop using Orion browser, frustrated...

Don't shoot the messenger, i'm just communicating an issue i see (and proposed a solution.)

Yes, a short list of recommended or popular extensions on iOS would be helpful. I don't think these need to be any more vetted or thoroughly tested than the "popular extensions" on macOS. Just ones that are reputable and generally known to work well.

I realize that there are hundreds of thousands of extensions and they change frequently, but the top <x> extensions is generally a pretty stable list consisting of the usual suspects.

Re: lack of telemetry, presumably this also applies to Orion on macOS? And yet there's a curated list of popular extensions in Orion for Mac.
