dderg Maybe its limited to my case, but I have never come across this requirement for my workflow.
To replecate that above senario, I would use Stage Manager. Does the same thing again , natively.
But yeah, I see your point.
Side by Side Tabs (Split View)
Not sure how to articulate the importance of the difference, but I was surprised to discover just how much I used and liked using the split view approach in Arc Browser, which is where I first saw it. It's the one thing that reliably makes me happy to switch back to Arc. (Its also prettier but that is very low on my priority list right now )
Part of it is the ability to mix and match layouts within the browser environment. If I want to have multiple windows in Stage Manager to accomplish the same layout, it takes more effort to set up and adds overhead when switching (I need to switch multiple window focus's when changing apps), and it just generally doesn't work as well.
I hope Orion adds a feature like split view in Arc, as that is one of Arc's main features. I use Split view with the browser a lot, but drag and dropping and clicking to make a split view is too much of burden to do.
For the moment, we don't plan to implement this feature. We think the Focus mode (โงโF) allows for even more flexibility, look at this example:
What do you guys think?
That's not what split tabs feature is about. Any browser can open multiple windows, hiding UI is not the important part. The ability to combine splits into groups, and doing so quickly, so you can switch between a tab that has a full screen page, and than a tab that has 2 splits in it, and maybe another tab that has 4. Of course you can open 5 windows, assign them to different spaces, resize them how you need. That's just a lot of friction.
But friction is the word I would describe my general experience with Orion unfortunately.
Just wish there was a browser I could switch to from Arc. But seems like ease of use is not the priority for Orion at the moment.
You are mistaken. We are making Orion an easy-to-use browser. And that's also why our friends at The Browser Company are working on Dia, an Internet browser that's easier than Arc, for everyone.
But we are also working in parallel on Orion+, the paid version of Orion, where we offer tools for advanced users like you. Many new features will come out this year, so stay tuned
To be clear on why this is not a solution to the request, even though it is a great feature I will use, this solution creates two separate windows that will need to be managed. Whereas with a split view it is one window I can refer to. I tried to use it in my workflow just now and switching between a full-screen window and the focus windows require me to bring all focus windows to the front manually. Does that make sense?
Marks Absolutely, thanks. I never said it wasn't useful
And as I said: it is not impossible that this feature will not see the light of day. I say that it is not our current priority, especially since it requires a deep paradigm shift.
Arc was created with a UI that more easily allows this kind of thing. We, on the other hand, have to bend the metal to make it fit into Orion.
Hi, to me the best thing about a built in split view is that i can switch away from it and restore it later. This is not something you can do via window management.
E.g. every week, i need to copy paste from one web app to another (in split view in Arc).
If it's helpful to others reading this, I've found it useful to combine Orion's existing features with MacOS's ability to create multiple spaces/desktops.
- Create a new space/desktop
- Open new focus windows for the 2 web apps I need to regularly work between, arranging them quickly with the options in the Window menu
- Return to my primary/original space to work in the main browser window or other applications
- When I need to return to a common grouping, I can navigate back to that space (I personally four-finger swipe)
Not as convenient to setup as with Arc, but once set up it's just as convenient (if not more so) to jump back to.
do we have a timeline for split view?
No. BUT, we are definitively working on something (early stage)
This is a must-have feature. Zen and Arc also allow you to easily organise or minimise tabs.

Hi, this is an awesome feature I am missing inside Orion. I would love the support of window snapping. This doesn't need to be made overly complicated. Window snapping would allow a tab to be moved:
- to the left
- (optional to the middle)
- to the right
4 tab view:
- top left
- top right
- bottom left
- bottom right
Please allow both of these options.
+1 here for this. I use an ultra wide screen and having the ability to split tabs inside the same window, over than having multiple windows would be great for my workflow.
