It would be great if it were possible to move a tab to a different profile (event if it itsn't currently open). This could be an option available under "Move tab:" (when right clicking on a tab).

And just to be clear, when I say "move a tab", I really mean "open the current URL in a new tab in a different profile". I wouldn't expect site data and history to move as well.

An example flow I run into all the time that this would smooth out:

  1. Get sent a link via something like the Slack app
  2. Click the link opening it in a profile that's not signed into that website (Github for example)
  3. Copy the URL
  4. Close the tab
  5. Open the correct profile
  6. Paste the link

If there was a quick way to move the tab to the correct profile, a lot of the clunky wouldn't be required.

To my mind, this would make it advantageous to always open links in your default profile rather than the "last active" and then just switch to the correct one if default doesn't have access.

No other browsers actually implement well as far as I've seen! I've used both Safari and Orion to try and manage different signed in account sessions across the same services (I have different Google accounts for personal, work and then for different clients for example), and I encounter the exact same problem in Safari: profiles are great until something else links to a URL on the machine.

bestlem Perhaps "Open URL in Profile"

seadowg How would you call this action as "move" is not appropriate?

You can use an app like Velja to do this.

Vlad Copy tab to profile X - or send tab to profile X

I could use a feature like this. Orion on my phone syncs with the default profile on my work laptop, because my work laptop is where I started playing around with Orion. But I don’t want my phone to sync with my work laptop. I want it to sync with the profile I created called “Personal”. Unfortunately, my phone will only sync to the default desktop Orion profile. I should have done it the other way around - I should have used the default desktop profile as my Personal profile, and created a new one called “Work”. But I didn’t! My default profile is “Work” - and that’s what’s syncing with my phone. I wasn’t thinking ahead. (I didn’t even knew that profiles existed even I started using Orion!)

The only thing I can think to do is swap the contents of the profiles. So it would be great to be able to move tabs and windows between profiles.

Alternatively the ability to sync my iOS browser to a profile of my choosing would eliminate the need for this.

Where is this option I am using Version 0.99.128-beta (WebKit 619.1.11.111.2) and do not see it.

Unfortunately I dont see the option to choose a specific window in a different profile.

@eirk We implemented moving tabs to active window only to keep it simple, and to be able to ship this feature a little faster.

If selecting an exact window is really a must, we would recommend creating a new feature request, and according to number of votes it will get, we'll prioritize and address that implementation too 🙂
