A prime example for this would be opening orionfeedback.org in a new browsing session.
Orion does not use HTTPS by default either, even if "Automatic HTTPS upgrade" is checked.
I assume it would check if there is an HTTPS version available after loading over HTTP initially, but if the HTTP connection fails it will fail entirely.
In Firefox I can configure "HTTPS-Only Mode", which prompts me to try downgrading to HTTP if loading over HTTPS fails.
In Chrome I can configure "Always use secure connections" with the same result.
Based on https://orionfeedback.org/d/3607-https-only-mode, this is not a feature in Orion yet.
The HTTPS Everywhere browser extensions has been sunset for both Firefox and Chrome due to its functionality being covered by native functionality since: https://www.eff.org/deeplinks/2021/09/https-actually-everywhere, so I'd have to install another third party extension after thoroughly reviewing it due to the permissions such an extension requires.
Typing just orionfeedback.org
in the address bar connects via HTTP first.
On a German keyboard layout, typing a /
requires pressing shift + 7, so it's not as easy to type as it is on a US keyboard layout due to the modifier. Ideally I could avoid typing https://
in the front entirely, but at least supporting http:domain.tld
would reduce friction.
