  • Erroneous background tab closure when closing newly created window

  • BugsDesktopDone

While testing https://orionfeedback.org/d/7514-large-delay-when-creating-a-new-window, I ran into a bug where creating a new window and immediately closing will also close an existing tab. Here are the replication steps:

  1. Have a window open
  2. Create a new window
  3. Immediately close the newly created window
  4. Notice that the underlying tab/window was also closed

I expected only the foreground tab to close. However both the foreground and a background tab got closed.

CyberArchon changed the title to Erroneous background tab closure when closing newly created window .

I have a window with two tabs open.

      I open a new window with ⌘+n

I change my mind, and immediately close it with ⌘+w

I expect the new window I opened closes, and this happens. I also expect my two tabs in the other window remain open, but one of them is closed.

If I open an actual page in the new window, this problem does not occur.

I notice this a lot when I'm working with pinned tabs. I open a new window to do some work on a pinned tab. When I'm done, I close it with ⌘+w, and as a side effect, some other tab on another window is also closed.

If I close the tab / window using the context menu on the tab bar, then it closes as normal.

See attached video for demonstrations of the different situations.

Closing a window does not affect tabs in other windows.
