  • Orion opens previous window when closed and reopened despite setting

  • BugsDesktopDone

This is after the latest update as of today. When my screen goes off due to inactivity and I return to Orion it appears like this. Typing in a new web address will not work. Not entirely sure how to reproduce it.

Clicking on the Orion icon (i.e reopening it) fixes it, but dismisses the open webpage.

Show the last visited webpage as normal.

I also have this kind of behavior where the window is blank and unresponsive but I don't know how to reproduce it either (yet).

I have managed to record something where it shows Orion becoming unresponsive, the steps to reproduce it are not very clear.

Some of these steps may not be required but what I think I did was:

      • launch Orion, it opens an empty window
      • open a website (like https://kagi.com)
      • close the tab
      • give focus to another application (Finder)
      • give focus back to Orion by clicking on the icon in the Dock, it opens an empty window
      • open a website (like https://kagi.com)
      • close the tab (using the keyboard shortcut Cmd+W)
      • give focus to another application (Finder)
      • give focus back to Orion by clicking on the icon in the Dock, it opens a window

      At this point:

      • the new window is blank but it has the URL of the tab I just closed
      • the window is mostly unresponsive:
        • I can click the + button to create a new tab but it has no visible effect (no new tab is created in that window)
        • the Reload and Back buttons have no effect when pressed
        • I can focus the URL bar but it changes nothing if I press enter
        • the keyboard shortcuts to close the tab or the window have no effect (the tab/window is not closed)

      But:

      • Clicking on the red close window button works
      • Another window was behind the one I was interacting with, and it looks like clicking the + button to create new tabs actually created new tabs in the window that was hidden behind

I was seeing this as well — changing the preferences so Orion opens with a new window rather than attempting to reopen windows stops it but is clearly not a solution.

Merged 4 posts from Browser blank and unresponsive after sleep/screen off.

I have the same issue. After closing a window with an URL in the address bar and a page displayed, if I use another app for a few seconds, when I click on the Orion icon in the dock, the closed window comes back blank and unresponsive, with the URL still in the address bar. There is no way to close the "resurrected" window other than quitting Orion.

I did not yet catch the exact pattern when this happens, but from time to time (pretty often recently) when I open Orion I see no tabs (no Start Page tab, too), with a URL already filled in (probably from my previous session) and no reaction to changing the URL.

            Browser restart resolves the issue.

I would expect a new Orion window to always have at least one empty tab ready for navigation.

Ah, sometimes it even has a phantom tab in it, but still you can do nothing with it: neither change the URL, nor refresh, nor open new tab.

I am experiencing similar issue as well. Orion just freezes and you can't even close it by clicking on the traffic light. Still haven't figured out a way to reproduce it tho. And i feel like when this never occurs while I am actively using Orion. It usually occurs after I click on the Orion icon to swicth back to using Orion.

OK I think this is what I am experiencing:

close Orion window but don't quit the app. (app active in dock)
                  and wait.
then a dead window (empty) will reappear and it's not clickable.

                  • When you click on "+" to open a new tab, it will open a new window that is functional.
                  • When you click on the Orion icon in dock, it will also open a new window that is functional.
Merged 5 posts from Orion window opens with no tabs and does not react to URL changing.
