When opening a new tab on Orion, I expect the search bar to be automatically selected so that i can instantly start typing. It does not do this. I have to manually click on the search bar to start typing. For Safari, it automatically lets me type. I am using 4th gen iPad Pro with Magic Keyboard. Running iPad OS 17.4.

I first try Safari, and then I try Orion:

I expect my cursor to automatically be on the search bar so that I don’t need to manually click on it every single time.

iPad OS 17.4, Orion version 1.3.7

Was digging in the settings and found that you could switch to having the keyboard on in new tabs however I feel like this should be the default… I do not see why this should be a manual toggle.

strain Becase the user may want to just use one of their Favorites or Bookmarks instead?

Vlad i understand that this functionality could be important for users who heavily rely on those features however, I believe that optimizing for the majority use case, which I suspect involves immediate searching for many users, would enhance the overall user experience.

As a iPad user a press CMD+T to open a new browser tab. After that I want to write down the url to open the website. Unfortunately the focus is NOT on the addressbar, but somewhere else - I don't use the focus mode. I need to use a short like CMD+L or my finger to set the focus within the addressbar.

This does not happen with the Desktop version. If I press CMD+T on MacOS' Orion a new browser tab is opened and the addressbar is focused.

Press CMD+T: Open new browser tab and focus on the addressbar.

Merged 2 posts from CMD+T opens a new browser tab, but the focus is NOT in the addressbar.

Apologies if this has been reported before - I couldn't find it. When using Command + N to open a new tab on iPad, the URL bar does not automatically focus, so I have to tap it first before I can type.

It would be nice if the URL bar focused automatically, like Safari, so that you could hit Command+N and immediately start typing.

Yeah... It's really frustrating to click or press CMD+L every time.

Hello all 👋 thank you for taking the time to report this issue!

We'll make a change to enable the "Show Keyboard on New Tab" setting by defult for iPad users. This will only affect new installs, when the default value for preferences are written.

For existing users, please enable the setting "Show Keyboard on New Tab" manually:

Let me know if that helps?

Thanks for your help in making Orion a better browser!
