Steps to reproduce:
There is a slight lag when typing quickly in the address bar. I compared it with chrome and safari and they do not have this issue.

Expected behavior:
No delay/lag when typing in the address bar

Orion and macOS:
macOS 12.1 and Orion 0.99.109.1-beta

    I also experience the lag, and I've noticed that for me it's related to the history autocomplete suggestions option in Preferences > Search.
    I don't have a lot of bookmarks or open tabs, but those 2 options don't seem to cause the same lag that history does for me.

      pieterv I just tried turning off history autocomplete suggestions and it stopped the lag. Thank you for letting me know that. However, it would be nice to have that option on without the lag.

            nwf Yes, I do. Problem is I have very little history, as I wipe out my history almost every other week for testing.

                Fortrikka I am not sure then, but I do experience it every time i type something in the address bar.

                    I enabled the on-screen keyboard and recorded myself typing into the address bar

                    Then in iMovie I reduced clip speed to 1% and found it takes 8.4s for the first keystroke (once recorded by the onscreen keyboard) to show up in the address bar

                    If I'm doing the math correctly, that means there was an 8.4s/100 = 0.084s = 84ms input lag!

                    Then for the next few keystrokes:
                    13s > 130ms
                    11s > 110ms
                    0s > 0ms
                    17s > 170ms (but two chars showed up at once)

                    Same but in safari:
                    17ms
                    0ms
                    17ms
                    0ms
                    0ms
                    16ms

                    So there is definitely something going on here.

                      Very few in safari - imported history from FF, so comparable history there - still no lag in Safari, but I don't see history autocomplete in Safari either.

                        I had the same problem.
                        Clicking "Develop -> Empty Cache" helped reduce the lagging without disabling history autocomplete on my machine.

                          Vlad I am still experiencing this on iOS (history autocomplete is enabled — video here). Happy to provide logs / further debug if helpful.
