Due to #6912 I had to disable sync back in December.
Today as of 20 Feb I tried to enable it back on macOS.
The result is, well, surprising.
- The browser got stuck for decent time displaying beach ball of death.
- I noticed some new tabs appearing and froze in horror.
- As soon as I could I've turned the sync off.
- As a result, I've got 500+ tabs opened across 2 windows (even the one window that didn't exist since I turned off the sync!!)
It seems that it's not the tabs that are synced but the history elements, which become tabs for some reason. I don't know how it works internally and which control of the thing you have but I doubt this should work like this, tabs are tabs, history is history.
I dunno how to decouple this issue into more atomic ones as I don't know where to start with, the whole thing seems so broken.
A few suggestions:
- Consider making the orion folder visible under "iCloud Drive" as other app folders: GarageBand, Pages, Shortcuts. So we can at least inspect it and probably even wipe it.
- Consider displaying sync info in settings: Last sync time, devices, how many tabs/stuff open at the moment
- Consider adding control buttons:
1) Wipe the sync state (overall, for current device)
2) Force push current device's orion state (like for my case, I haven't used the sync for months so I don't care what's in there for my current device)
