PJCville Not unique defeinetely, but also not readilly reproducible which makes it hard to debug. We believe it is a WebKit bug and will go away with the next WebKit update.

Several pages on the Tesla website, including Trip Planner and Supercharger voting cause Orion to constantly keep reloading the results page. This makes Orion completely unresponsive, and I need to kill the tab, or Force Quit Orion. https://www.tesla.com/supercharger-voting/overview

This happens even with website compatibility turned on.

I expected the website to work as it does on Safari.

Merged 1 post from Tesla Websites Hang, and make Orion unresponsive..
      5 days later

Does anyone have insights into the timeline for the next WebKit update? I briefly reviewed their open bug reports for instances of "crashing," but encountered a multitude of unresolved issues.

Given the volume of outstanding bugs, it's uncertain if the upcoming update will address the crash problem. I'm currently using Orion RC as my primary browser, but the persistent crashing issue is becoming increasingly annoying. Without a foreseeable fix in the next few weeks, I'm contemplating either reverting to the standard Orion version or temporarily switching to Brave. I'm curious to know how others are managing this situation. While I'm generally tolerant of RC glitches, the frequency of crashes with Orion RC — about twice a day — is challenging. I have to restart every time it happens to fix it.

      • Vlad replied to this.

rosenrot I can imagine how it feels. It does not crash for me so the crash condition is local and unclear. We will plan to have a version with updated webkit in two weeks, RC earlier.

NOTE: I first noticed this on RC 0.99.123.1.1, I was unable to reproduce in the non-RC version of Orion, however it seems as though 123.2 has been released for both beta and RC channels, and I was able to duplicate in both beta and RC under this version.

          Steps to reproduce:

          • I used a brand new profile (the history in the profile was from attempting to duplicate this). No extensions, ad blocking entirely disabled, etc.
          • I navigated to cabelas.com (note that I've seen this in multiple places, most frustratingly while watching YouTube videos) but it was easiest to demonstrate/duplicate the issue on this site. Other shopping sites such as target.com and Walmart.com will likely work as well.
          • Drill down through several pages of product listings. Note as you progress, the browser slows down. Images load much slower, scrolling halts and becomes sluggish, etc.
          • Eventually, the page just completely "reloads". When this happens on YouTube as an example, the progress you made while watching the video is lost (i.e. it starts over at the beginning)

          Expected behavior:
Pages should not randomly reload while browsing. I was unable to duplicate this in the non-RC version of Orion (this was only noticed in the most recent version, so after the most recent memory leak fix, which may or may not be related -- maybe your GC is too aggressive?)

          Image/Video:

Happens to me too while watching YouTube videos

I was able to duplicate on 0.99.123.2-rc last night, today I recorded it (along with about Orion dialog showing version)

Mentioned in discord but putting here as well, unable to duplicate in Safari/Safari TP, so doesn't seem to be webkit related

happened to me too in the orionfeedback website 3 times while writing one post lol

Having this same issue right now. Occurred in Google Slides & Gmail, with both reloading with no notice (At separate times).

Still receiving this exact issue. Particularly annoying on YouTube videos.

                    Orion, OS version; hardware type:
                    Version 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
MacBook Air (macOS Monterey 12.4 build 21F79)

The pages are still randomly loading for me on youtube and reddit pages. It was particularly bad in 0.99.123.2 beta but now its less frequent but the issue is still there please fix it.

                    Version 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
MacBook Air M1 (macOS Monterey 12.6.3)

This happens to me constantly while watching YouTube videos. I'll be watching a video and, after I've had the tab/window open for a while, it randomly reloads the page, resetting the video to the beginning.

This happens constantly for me on Version 0.99.123.3-beta (WebKit 615.1.16.1) so i dont think this is done.

I didnt have this issue before 0.99.123

Chiming in to confirm what others are saying, the issue still occurs.
Seemingly randomly, but consistently throughout the day nonetheless.
While watching video on Youtube, watching video on Twitch, while scrolling a page (with infinite loading)

                        My report is for
                        Version 0.99.123.3-rc (WebKit 615.1.16.1)
MacBook Pro (macOS Catalina 10.15.7 build 19H2026)

Multiple people are saying "not fixed, only improved".
                        I count so far:

                        • 2 reports from MacOS Monterey.
                        • 2 reports from unknown MacOS.
                        • 1 report from MacOS Catalina

It could be another older MacOS only issue.

pieterv I will say that on Ventura, I have not run in to this issue since the 0.99.123.3 build. So there may be something to the older OS versions and continuing to experience the issue.

ajgraves I'm on Ventura and I consistently run into this issue, although it doesn't seem to happen when I have compatibility mode turned on, so that might be related.
