Steps to reproduce:

  1. Add a folder to your favorites
  2. Open said folder on start page
  3. Open a new tab ⌘+T
  4. Notice that the folder is still open in the new tab
  5. Add a link to the folder
  6. Open the link
  7. Open a new tab
  8. The folder is still open and all the contents of your favorites are displayed (i.e. favorites that are not in the folder)
  9. Clicking the < arrow to go back to Favorites instead goes two layers back, resulting in Favorites, Bookmarks Bar, and Bookmarks folders being displayed

Expected behavior:
The current beta behavior is the expected one:

  1. Opening a new tab displays all favorites and not the previously open folder
  2. Folders only show their intended contents

As of Version 0.99.126.3.1-rc (WebKit 618.1.2), this is partially fixed.

        Fixed issues:

        • Folders now consistently show only their contents
        • Clicking < correctly takes the user back to the Favorites list

        Issues that still exist:

        • Opened favorites folders remain open when a favorite is opened
        • Opened favorites folders remain open when a new tab is opened

In other words, the only way for the user to get back to the Favorites list is to click the back arrow. The intuitive (and previously present) functionality is that once the user clicks a favorite in the folder to open it in the same tab, the browser should return to displaying all favorites. Opening a new tab should result in the same outcome.

Something is also causing the last item in the folder to randomly replace one of the other bookmarks. They all work and can be clicked. When the user closes the favorites folder, the items return back to normal.
